Gotta a feeling there is more to this than simple book banning. but then, that would not be good poop would it"America will never be destroyed from the outside, if we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves." tbrown 26 #5 September 4, 2008 Now this would be an issue. The Republicans though would probably enjoy holding book burning bonfires at her rallies, though I think McCain would ask them not to at his gatherings. He doesn't seem the "burning" type. And if the Republicans don't want to burn the books, I'm sure some of the young hellraisers who like to picket things would be more than happy to do it outside her rallies.... Not a bad idea, really. TomAiello 26 #6 September 4, 2008 Our local library here has a list of books they won't put in the library because they are "inappropriate to the general library population." They include some very explicit sex books, which were removed from sections accessible to children, some neo-nazi hate books, which were removed from the library completely, and several others. If that's the most disturbing thing about a small town mayor, they probably share it with a huge number of librarians and city councils. Have you called up your local public library and asked them if there are any books they won't put on their shelves?-- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Have you called up your local public library and asked them if there are any books they won't put on their shelves? Well, I could call the public library and ask if any librarians had been fired for failing to agree to the mayor's 'bad book' list. That's more to the point here, don't you think? Allowing the ideological bent of local politicians decide which books are appropriate to be in public libraries may be common in your neck of the woods where beauty pagents judge contestants on looks, personality, talent and ethnic purity ...but i find it repulsive. ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it". DSE 5 #12 September 4, 2008 obviously I don't know the particulars of this one, but our town librarian was nearly fired for holding out to allow certain books in our library. Eventually, some of the books were allowed (non mormon, fairly intense attacks on the Mormons in the books) and are once a year featured on the same center aisle rack in the library. Certain books about war atrocities, pedophelia, etc are not allowed either.

Tom -- These were not supposedly "those" types of books that sometimes and in some locations need to be relegated to special sections. These were, if the reports are accurate, mainstream books that simply do not have the "approval" of some Evangelical groups. Things like the Harry Potter series because, in their opinion, it fosters a belief in witchcraft.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
