quade 4 #1 September 2, 2008 She's probably the least well known politician that has ever run for the VP slot. Love her or hate her, ya gotta watch this. It's really the first national speech she's ever given. It's going to be interesting. http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/09/02/rnc.day/index.html Quote Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, McCain's's choice for vice president, is scheduled to address the GOP Wednesday night. I would have linked from the GOP website, but they STILL haven't updated their schedule yet! http://www.gopconvention2008.com/schedule/wednesday.aspxquade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

quade 4 #3 September 2, 2008 Hey! I'm excited to see her speak. If it's a typical 30-45 minute slot, it gives her a bit of time to explain who she is beyond the rumor and speculations on the net. This is going to be the first and longest lasting impression most people will ever have of her.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
1969912 0 #4 September 3, 2008 Will definitely be worth watching. Dunno about the schedule. It still hasn't been updated (~6:30 PM, PST). I thought a couple things were a bit over the top, like the "...styrofoam Roman columns..." and "...parting the waters..." comments, but I guess it's just politics. Those comments had me laughing like hell though. quade 4 #8 September 4, 2008 Okies . . . I JUST got home and did a once over on her speech, haven't watched it yet but did read it and here are my first impressions. This will mostly a commentary on the speechwriting and obviously not the delivery. No, clearly she didn't write the speech (practically nobody does that), but I do find a couple of interesting things right off the bat. 1) She very favorably compared McCain to two very popular Demoncrats; Kennedy and Truman. Truman directly, Kennedy by the sentence, "Our nominee for president is a true profile in courage, . . . " Interesting. Not that this is reaching out to their way of thinking, but interesting that the speechwriter didn't use Republican references. Certainly there must have been -somebody- the writer could have used? No? 2) "Our son, Track, is 19. And one week from tomorrow, September 11 . . . " Really, out of 365 days of the year he's shipping out on September 11? Ok. THAT'S weird. I don't wanna get all conspiratorial or anything and I certainly wouldn't even suggest it's a staged event, but holy crap that's weird. 3) "I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a community organizer, except that you have actual responsibilities." Nice dig at Obama, but of course meaningless in the long run. Obama still has infinitely more international experience than she does or have we all forgotten that whole Berlin speech from last month where he actually had people in a foreign country cheering for the US rather than burning flags? 4) "If our state wanted to build a bridge, we were going to build it ourselves. When oil and gas prices went up dramatically and filled up the state treasury, I sent a large share of that revenue back where it belonged: directly to the people of Alaska." Well at least she admitted she didn't build the bridge . . . she DID keep the MONEY THOUGH that she got from the other 49 states. So, what? She gets credit for not "wasting" it, but just "keeping" it? WTF is THAT? 5) "And despite fierce opposition from oil company lobbyists, who kind of liked things the way that they were, we broke their monopoly on power and resources. As governor, I insisted on competition and basic fairness to end their control of our state and return it to the people. I fought to bring about the largest private-sector infrastructure project in North American history. And when that deal was struck, we began a nearly $40 billion natural gas pipeline to help lead America to energy independence." Uh . . . so she's not in bed with big oil as much as she is with big gas? How's THAT better? Anyway, from that point forward it's pretty good attack dog stuff. Can't wait 'til I have time tomorrow to see how she actually delivered it.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

Not once did thet mention healthcare. not that I saw. And their ideas to save the economy were to cut taxes, an idead that has worked well for Reagan/Bush/Bush. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>"I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a community organizer, except that you have actual responsibilities." Not to mention, the right keeps saying how Obama has no leadership experience since he is in the Senate; where is McCain's leadership experience? He's a senatorial guy too, being held in a VN prison doesn't make you a leader, it makes you a prisoner. I think she looked Brash, as Obama didn't use cutting tactics to this degree. jimmytavino 16 #10 September 4, 2008 well the current G O P admin...has a Puppet president, and a VP who does things behind the scenes.. the 'new wave' G O P is going for a puppet Vice Pres....( one who just reiterates the written words of Pro speech writers) hell there are thousands of people , men and Women, who coullda stood at that podium and READ those words....No doubt the breifing before the speech, incuded recommendations of when to "punch up the embellishment" and how to roll her eyes, at the right moments.. For the Repubs. to think so Little of Democrat voters, that they believe supporters of H Clinton, will FLOCK to McCain, simply because he has a woman VP.. is further evidence of their disconnect, to the heart and soul of ALL voters.. Maybe the G O P thinks that since the population at large, sat back and allowed the BUSH Debacle to occur,,, that we ( all of us ) are just idiots, who respond with knee-jerk reactions, and can be led around like a horse on a tether..... being offered what THEY think, is a carrot on a stick..... The US public deserves Much more respect than THAT... after all it IS the middle class, we down in the trenches, who are paying the tab, ( and will continue to pay the tab, WITH interest ) both financially AND emotionally, for the missteps of the past 8 years... jimmy Out... ltdiver 3 #11 September 5, 2008 All very good points you make, and ones that appear directly in front of someone with a quick read of her speech. Here's a few more: 6)"While I was at it, I got rid of a few things in the governor's office that I didn't believe our citizens should have to pay for. That luxury jet was over the top. I put it on eBay." --Yes, she put it on ebay, but it didn't sell. They had to turn around and sell it through an aviation venue instead. 7)"I told the Congress "thanks, but no thanks," for that Bridge to Nowhere." --As you brought up already, she kept the money though. And the project was already dead by the time it reached her desk anyway. She just read it it's last rights. 8) "But listening to him speak, it's easy to forget that this is a man who has authored two memoirs but not a single major law or reform - not even in the state senate. " --Ah, really Sarah? I think you need to do a little more research on that one. 9) "Taxes are too high ... he wants to raise them. His tax increases are the fine print in his economic plan, and let me be specific." --Again, she needs a bit more research here. His plan is to lower taxes on those incomes that are less than $200,000 for an individual, or $250,000 for couples. --Then Sarah's record indicates that while she was governor she just swapped lowering property taxes with raising sales tax. Something that netted an -increase- in government income for Alaska. ** Yes, her speech was brilliantly delivered, but whoever wrote it needs to tighten up his/her facts a bit. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
