Now JCD has come up with an INCREDIBLY creative psychological defensive mechanism for dealing w/Senator Obama's lack of accomplishment. He's convinced himself that congressmen cannot accomplish ANYTHING individually and that anything they do is part of a group effort. Gawain 0 #12 August 24, 2008 QuoteSo you didn't read the list either. Neither did you apparently. Only one bill made it to law, a bill to provide about $50M in aid to the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Everything else buried in committee, or wasn't legislation at all. Resolutions and spending amendments... Some of things he proposed, on the face of it, I agree with. However, the glossy sheen of Sen. Obama's fresh image is long gone. So, aside from doing his job, his actual accomplishments are negligible. No ground breaking leadership to effect "change". Sen. McCain has caused more change in as much time. McCain/Feingold, as much as I disagree with it, was ground breaking change in campaign finance reform (not for the better in my opinion). However, I have no doubts about what Sen. McCain was seeking to accomplish, and he is not apologetic about. Sen. Obama can make so such claim. His choice for VP running mate exposes his weaknesses rather than supplements his attributes. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! I recognize that with your limited comprehension of how the government works, Vinny, it might be a tough concept to grasp, but Congress is a group. They accomplish things as a group. If you can't comprehend that, perhaps you should try reading the Constitution. I think you'll find that individual Congressmen cannot pass bills. They can write them, of course, but that's not much of an accomplishment if the majority of each house does not come together to support it.Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! lawrocket 3 #15 August 24, 2008 He has managed to build a coalition of sorts. His individual accomplishments in Congress seem to be pretty limited. Which I point to as a successful legislator. Laws, by their nature, restrict behavior. Congress is in the business of passing laws. The less they do, the more free we are. So his chief accomplishment, in my book, may very well be doing nothing. A do-nothing president cant' fuck anything up. GWB certainly cannot be characterized as a "do nothing." Who here wants a president doing whatever he or she wants? My wife is hotter than your wife. So his chief accomplishment, in my book, may very well be doing nothing. Please don't pretend that Obama, through inaction, is somehow championing freedom. IF Obama could gather the support needed, he would do away with the right to keep and bear arms in any meaningful way so as to essentially nullify it. This is borne out by his personal statements, and by legislative proposals for which he has proclaimed his support. It's completely ridiculous to paint Obama as someone who worked to get himself elected to the Senate in order to be the guy who kept Congress from passing more laws to restrict us.Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire

Honestly, I'm not all that familiar with the so-called false smears that you're apparently talking about. I do know that a handful of things are known about Obama that make him someone I will NEVER vote for: - unabashed support for restrictive gun control - doublespeak to cover for same, while claiming to "support the 2nd Amendment" - close association with some of the most vile, rabid anti-Americans and anti-whites in the country - lies to claim that he wasn't all that close with same - support for him comes from a long list of people whose ideology I abhor; and I can't imagine that people would be supporting a guy unless they had cause to believe that he shared their ideology But then, I'm a real piece of work, so what do I know?Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire

lawrocket 3 #23 August 24, 2008 I'm not saying that Obama is a zealous advocate for personal freedoms and liberties. Indeed - my support of him has significantly waned in the last month or so because of what I view as the missteps and lack of integrity of the party he represents. It has turned from a Democrat I can support to someone I cannot support because he is a Democrat. (As an aside, McCain is in similar hot water. I'd like to support him, but the GOP is so screwed up that I just can't do it). But when asked for an accomplishment, I actually view it as one. Much like a blind squirrel stumbling on a nut, it may have been unintentinal, but it is an accomplishment nonetheless. My wife is hotter than your wife.
