Lucky... 0 #1 August 22, 2008 http://www.lvrj.com/news/26182389.html The former Stardust, now the ghey, "Echelon Place" has been put on hold due to credit issues. I was pissed when they tore the ole girl down,it had a great venue, seemed to be busy so probably great revenues, just that the Boyd family wanted a hoity-toity casino and decided the venue of the dust was the best. Looks like they fucked up and I can't say I'm sorry for them. But as for the thread, the economy must be bad, Vegas is usually recession-proof.

That makes more sense tho, as Jean is more obscure. Don't you think the Boyd family are assfucks? They own a few casinos, The Orleans and other small ones and they tear down what I believe was their most solvent casino in the Dust to build another Mirage-type POS. Fuck them, hate to see you guys out of work, but Vegas has enough elitist hangouts and the coll ones are dying. Aside from my feelings, the economy must be shit after seeing this. Even during the Reagan recession of 1990-1992 was the economy like this in Vegas? I don't recall it being so.

I don't recall it being so. How many super casinos have been built since 1992? Vegas had been in a booming buildout since 1992, at the same time they were building Indian casinos all over, and it finally caught up with them. Even in a good economy these projects don't always pan out - the Stratosphere is evidence of this.

Personally I have never been in casino in my whole life, and I suspect I will never be.* Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

That's like saying that because super-rich people aren't buying their usual quota of gold-plated Rolls-Royce's at the moment, then the common people can't afford bread. These new billion-dollar casinos have such crazy financing deals, it's amazing any of them get built.Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

grimmie 186 #11 August 24, 2008 "Lost Wages" overbuilt to much, too soon. Everyone thinks their casino will be the best. Think about it though. Only so many people want to go to Vegas. The condos like Turnberry Place sold well at first so every developer wanted a piece of the action. There are only so many people in the world that want or can afford a second home. So now there are huge condo units being built that won't sell and casinos lacking customers. With gas so high it is killing the major source of income there...Southern Californians. And the Indian casinos here in So Cal are very nice, so why drive the I-15 in 105 degree heat.

I don't care if people lose their ass on vegas building, I just hate that the cool older casinos are being replaced with mega cookie cutters.

Not really, I'm talking one small faction of the pie, ypu're talking about some trickle down scheme. Vegas isn't the economy, they are a small piece within the economy. Vegas is an indicator , as well, most economic classes can go, so I'm sure as many poor, middle class and rich are not attending.
