Are you big enough to admit that you referred to them flippantly as "animals," but when I said I would execute (not murder, execute) them, suddenly they metamorphosized back into "humans"?

Pssst Human beings ARE animals..... some are just closer to their animalistic nature than others.. right Jeffrey???

I hesitate to use the word "intellectual" in any post that is about you, Jeanne, but this junk above is just more intellectual sleight-of-hand by you. We know what you mean when you say "animals" in reference to convicted rapists and murderers, and it isn't the biological definition you're using.

Quote

I think when one of them exibits his inability to live with other human beings... then they need to be removed from the comany of other human beings. Being an animal and killing them make you less of a human being.

Yes, well, when it suits you, you describe them as animals, using the term in the pejorative sense. Then when it suits you, and you want to condemn my willingness to put these vermin to death, suddenly you are referring to them as "living human beings." :o Voila! They're transformed!! Suddenly they are worthy living creatures, who deserve our compassion, no longer trash that we should just eliminate!

Less of a human being? Howzat? If you tested my DNA, before and after executing vermin, it would be the same, Jeanne.

I guess I simply don't mind so much when a treaty obligation, which was not written as part of our Constitution itself, was not followed through on, especially when I have every confidence that the person who was convicted is sure to be the one who did the crime. Lots of appeals are denied because a court finds that the issue under appeal would not have and could not have changed the outcome of the trial. If any such case exists, surely it is this one.

Would I prefer it if this T had been crossed and this I dotted, so that the anti-executionists would be force to either shut the fuck up or parade their sympathy and compassion for a vicious rapist/murderer publicly? .

Dotting the "i"s and crossing the "t"s in a legal proceeding - thats what they call "due process". Article VI of the Constitution is part of the Constitution whether you like it or not.

At least you now admit that Texas executed that guy WITHOUT due process, but you "simply don't mind".

Seems we are finally making some progress with you. Anger management comes next?

See, now THAT'S where all the problem lies.
IMHO, it's not that execution is so damn objectionable, it's the asshole people prosecuting cases with one thing and only one thing in mind...winning a conviction. Dotting "Is" and crossing "Ts" has nothing to do with innocence or guilt.

Due process you say? How the hell can you have "due process" when the prosecuting assholes are doing everything in their power to twist and spin evidence and testimony to fit their damn need for "convictions" even to the point of hiding relevant information?

Dammit, THOSE are the ones who need the ass-fucking from Bubba.

Due process my ass. Talk is cheap. Justice is not a requirement in the American judicial system. Neither is fact nor is truth. It's about spin. The best "spinner" wins while the poor chump on the short end of the stick gets screwed.

If you think innocent people have NOT been convicted and even executed, you live in a dreamworld with blinders on.

As long as justice, fact and truth are irrelevant to the judicial prcess, you will continue to have innocent people jailed and executed.

Shit. Now I'm gonna have another pissed off day.

I think he got all the due process, where it counts, that one should really hope for.

You guys are making it seem like an innocent guy got executed but wouldn't have if we'd only given him this phone call to the consulate.

I offered a worthy cause (ACLU) to which the money could be donated on my behalf, but you complained that you would only pay the money to me. Then you asked for a PayPal address, which I provided, then you complained about the costs associated with sending money via PayPal. Then you said you would be happy to donate my money to an organization that you approve of. :S

I like the way you phrased your poll choices so much, I simply couldn't resist checking the "Oh no" option. Thanks for making people with an honest opinion look like sissies.

I have no doubt in my mind that this guy DESERVES death for what he's done. And in this case I have no doubt that there is ample convincing evidence. Emotionally, I'd like to see a medieval penalty like breaking on the wheel or drawing & quartering used, as a simple needle, rope, or electric shock would be too kind.

But I'm still completely opposed to the death penalty, across the board, for anyone. So there's no point in making exceptions for anyone.

I'm currently embroiled in a dispute with the Kalifornia DMV over trying to retire the registration of an ancient car of mine that I finally sold to a junkyard when it died. The State LOST my title to this car over twenty years ago. They lost it. But they continued to register it. Now they want to jack me up for cancelling the insurance on this junked non-existent car. They're telling me I can't sell it without the title, which THEY lost (I bought the car new in 1984 and paid it off by 1989). I can't even get somebody who speaks ENGLISH to talk to on the phone. I suppose eventually I'll have to ask for help from my State Assemblyman's office.

But my point is that if I can't trust the state to let me junk a dead car, if I can't even find a state official who speaks English, WHY would I ever want to empower that same state to take anyone's life, for any reason ?

I think locking this pile of rat shit up for the rest of his life would be a miserable punishment. Why let him off easily with a quick death ? (The Manson girls, "Charlie's Angels", have said they wish they WERE executed, they can't bear spending their entire lives in captivity.) He would have to be kept under max isolation lockup to the end of his days, because he'd be killed the minute he's ever let out in the yard with anyone else.

Lock him up, thow away the key, and let the suffering begin.

I never agreed in the first place to "donate" the money from the wager. I raised the idea when you refused to take the hit for the charges to get the money sent to you. I pointed out that I never agreed to incur any fees other than the single dollar that was the term of the wager. So it was a concession on my part in the first place to attempt an alternate arrangement, but you cannot demand that I be forced to make a donation to an organization I do not support in philosophy.

You have the chronology all fucked up. The first thing I did was ask for the Paypal address. You started quoting me a cost above and beyond the dollar of the wager. The donation shit came afterward, as an alternative I suggested, but I informed you that I would not be willing to donate to the ACLU.

So sorry.

Then why on earth would you trust the state to send a person to prison, in solitary confinement, for life?

Why on earth would you trust the state to not "lose" the correspondence he attempts to send to his attorney, regarding appeal?

Yeah, and you believed them.

Ever heard of a "jailhouse conversion"? It's when a convict "finds Jesus" and is reallll serious about "turning his life around and giving it to the Lord" -- just long enough to convince a fuckin' parole board full of people just as credulous as you.

ME, I find it far more likely that they are saying that just to keep people believing that they have it worse than if they'd been put to death like sick dogs.

Yeah, well, we have some of our more "compassionate" SCers, the anti-death-penalty ones, who wish for just that kind of extralegal execution. Just as long as the state doesn't conduct it, they're ok with it.

Killing them as Jeffrey and the other "compassionate conservatives" want to do is unacceptable in a supposedly modern society. All the pro death people should face up to THEIR resopnsibility.. if they want that blood lust so badly.. they should be doing it themselves.. All death penalty supporters should be put into a death pool so they can be executioners just like jury duty. The consequences of that can be on THEIR minds for the rest of THEIR lives. You should have to declare your desire to kill your fellow Americans.

sounds like jury duty.

Is it about following ME around to MY threads to dog ME about anything that can be found, or is it about the way the poll options were worded?

I asked if my poll was singled out, because there are LOTS of SC polls that get asked in sneaky, snide ways (like mine was -- do you see me denying it?) but I don't know if so many people pile on about them the way they seem happy to do when it's my poll. Seems a bit hypocritical is all. But then, who would deny that hypocrisy is the norm in SC?

I understand. But in all honesty, the way I live my life, I try to remain ever open to being shown where I am wrong if I am wrong, and reevaluating my positions on things in view of new information or corrections. I also strive to not engage in hypocrisy, and try to stamp it out of my own behavior when noticed, when possible. EVERYONE lives with a bit of hypocrisy on their own part. But usually it is in parts of their lives that are hard to cut out. It's easy to cut it out when you are doing it in your debating, and still, I see many people here engage in it as a very regular thing.

The rest of what you wrote is essentially a dead issue. If you wouldn't have stood on ceremony, you would have seen that right up front, I was intending to make good on the debt incurred by the wager, even though I did not consider it a settled issue that you had truly won.

You blindsided me with an insistence that I give the money myself to an organization I dislike, and now say I am "welshing" (is that the word?) because I won't pay more than the dollar I owed (you tried to hit me up for an additional 33%!), or to anyone but the person who I said I would pay. Too bad, so sad.

Fine, you are entitled to have that view even if I disagree with it.

I was not aware that a soul was a quantity, I thought it was just an entity, a whole. Can a soul be somehow "weighed" and be "less" after the person who is that soul did something bad?

I don't see it that way. I also recognize that "most of the world" lives with a very different set of values, and most of them live in poverty created in part from their own ignorance or stubbornness. I really don't care how they view me or America.

And after it's all said and done, I doubt there is a person from this board, with whom I disagree vehemently, with whom I would not skydive or hoist a beer. Go figure.

Do you not live in the real world? I gave you the opportunity (which still stands) to post proof of a $1 donation to the ACLU. That would save you any fees associated with your responsibility of delivering the funds to me. If you don't want to do that, then you can get $1 to me however you like, but delivery fees remain your responsibility, just like any other payment owed in the real world.

It would be comical to watch someone sell out their personal credibility over such a small amount if it wasn't so pathetically sad.

Someone needs to take this young man and sit him down and talk to him. He needs to understand what he did is wrong and not acceptable. He needs to have the consequences of his action explained to him, and he needs love and acceptance to be able to reintegrate into society. I wouldn't mind putting money on the fact that he was most likely abused as a child and so is in fact a victim himself. I think that with time hard work counsiling and love he could once again become a member of society and truely repent for the crimes he committed in his pain....Actually I'd much rather shoot him.

Is it better to live in a country with overt recognition of who is a "pleb" and who is a "patrician"?

Maybe you'd prefer to replace the "land of opportunity" with "stay in your fuckin' CASTE!" as the motto of the U.S.?

The fact that you condescend to people as though you have the standing to call them "pleb" says a lot about you.

Firstly, my comment has nothing to do with the Caste system but if you wish to stop Hindu liberals reforming their religion in the USA then thats up to you.
Secondly the distinction was between Royalty and the middle and working class with no reference to where I do or don't stand anywhere in the text either directly or indirectly.
As for Plebs I refer you to the account below (taken from Wikipedia as I don't want to invest any more time than I have to in your education.)

Quote

Plebs were the general body of Roman citizens in Ancient Rome. They were distinct from the privileged class of the patricians. A member of the plebs was known as a plebeian (Latin: plebeius). The term is used more commonly today to refer to one who is in the middle or lower class, or who appears to be; however, in Rome, plebeians could become quite wealthy and influential.

So you see the distinction is between the ruling class (eg: Royalty) and the citizens, who could be wealthy and influential people. The fact that you look down your nose at plebs therefore says allot more about your feelings of class inferiority than it does anything about me in anyway shape or form dear boy.
