Obama seem ok with handing out your money but less so for his. Repeating a falsehood doesn't make it come true. If it did, Iraq would have WMDs. By the way, aren't you the same bodypilot90 that admitted (April 2004) posting stuff you know to be untrue on SC "for amusement"? That hardly helps your credibility.... Do you recall if, he said something in regard to help or aid from his brother? I can't form an opinion because, I don't have the facts on the matter. Also, It appears to me that all politicians are quick to spend everyone elses money rather than theirs. Chuck
kbordson 8 #53 August 23, 2008 Thank you for your insight on other lifestyles and cultures. It is too easy to only view the situation through our perspectives and make judgments when we honestly don't understand the situation there. Unfortunately, we tend to get most of our information on life in other countries from news and the media (and as we know, those are not always accurate or without their own agendas) Hearing opinions of those that HAVE been there is helpful. Obama made his "big" speech...he said: "I have brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, uncles and cousins, of every race and every hue, scattered across three continents, ..." Then he said: "Let us be our brother's keeper,..." Sen. Obama could send him $20 and double the income for the year... He appears to have a good attitude and is learning a good trade. He also seems content to do things on his own and deal with his own life. If, that's how it is, leave him be. Where's the problem? Chuck
PhreeZone 20 #60 August 23, 2008 Its only a problem because both sides see political capital in it. The Right wants to use it as an attack since Obama has brought his brother up from poverty (by US standerds) with his own money, the left wants to use it as capital so show that through hard work Barack was able to improve himself to the point he is running for the POTUS. This really is a non-story in terms of the impact on the country if Obama was elected but people smell blood in the water and will use anything to get ratings or attack the other side.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

That's a new one on me! All those Washington 'spin doctors'? Chuck Swift Boating describes the effective use of well funded false charges against the personal character of a candidate. The way the game is played is a false charge is raised by a 529 group, one that is not permitted to be under the control of any candidate. The group makes the false charge and then the candidate who may benefit from the attack upon his opponent reminds voters that he/she does not endorse this view and has absolutely no control over those promoting the attack. The candidate further cites the law that prohibits the candidate from attempting to control the representations of the group leading the character attack. This argument is then extended to its perfect conclusion: No, we cannot tell them to stop, for that would be attempting to control their free speech and would violate the law. So, sorry, can’t comment on their claims at all. President Bush and Karl Rove fell in love with this strategy. Our president did not have a distinctive military service in the National Guard in Texas during the Vietnam War, and his opponent, John Kerry had military service in Vietnam that earned him several purple hearts. So how do you diminish a war hero contrasting his service with a tour of Texas in uniform? Why, Swift Boaters of course. It's quite enlightening to check out and compare on Snopes the number of FALSE, smear stories about Obama, with those on McCain. The ratio is around 19:1 The GOP's smear machine is in top gear....
