SpeedRacer 1 #26 August 13, 2008 No, I wouldn't. There is the real possibility that if you killed Hitler as a child or whatever, that given the state that Germany was in during the 1920s & early 30s, it is quite possible that someone very much like Hitler would have risen up to take his place. Germany at that time was ripe for some extremist to take over. In the future we should try not to put other countries into such a state. downwardspiral 0 #27 August 13, 2008 I was pro death penalty until I read an article of an exonerated man (thanks to DNA evidence) who spent 20 years in prison and was within 2 weeks of being executed. If it can get to within two weeks then it's certainly not unrealistic to think there are those who ran out of time.www.FourWheelerHB.com
Andy9o8 2 #29 August 13, 2008 Quote'We'? Well, the "standard" judgment of history is that the extremely harsh terms of surrender which the Allied Powers ("we")demanded of the Central Powers (particularly Germany) ("them")at the close of WW1 helped plunge them into a horrible post-war depression, and were also humiliating, which in turn provided fertile soil for charismatic, militaristic dictators like Hitler and Mussolini to come to power by means of playing national savior. Erroll 80 #31 August 14, 2008 Quote OK, let's have some fun with this. Let's say you're intractibly opposed to abortion. Now let's say we could go back in time, intercept Hitler's mother while she was pregnant with him, and abort him in the fetal stage. Would you sanction that? Only if his father was adamant that he was not going to teach Adolf what a real moustache should look like. But then again, how would John Cleese have done the Hitler skit without the funny moustache? Difficult one, this.
birdlike 0 #32 August 14, 2008 QuoteWho shall we choose to make such decisions? We democratically choose people to decide to lead us to war, to tax us, to tell us what we may or may not do recreationally. Why is it such a stretch that we would choose to have those people make these decisions? They already make life-and-death decisions based on the presumption that they are trying to do what is best for the greatest number.Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire

Wait, countries PUT other countries into their desperate and dangerous states? Well, sweet! Now we can start looking around the world for the country we can blame for us being dependent on foreign oil, being big polluters, being in a bad economy... AWESOME! It's not our fault for doing it to ourselves after all!! Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire
Andy9o8 2 #34 August 14, 2008 Quotecountries PUT other countries into their desperate and dangerous states? Sometimes, or at least materially contribute to it. See my post #29. Then hit Google and study analyses of the Armistice treaty of November 11, 1918 and its consequences on post-WW1 Europe. There will be a quiz next Thursday.
