Is gun ownership climbing at the same rate as population increase? More? Less? I'm just curious if you knew. I don't know, but I'll see what information I can find in regards to hard numbers - it's not exactly a census survey question, ya know?Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim. mnealtx 0 #27 August 9, 2008 BATF-E info from 1999 estimates 215 million guns in the USA. They estimate the number rises by approximately 4 million per year (NICS checks increased by approximately 4% per year, as well). Assuming the BATFE numbers are accurate, that means there is roughly 247 million guns as of 2007 - an increase of roughly 15%. United States population as of the 2000 census was 281421506 As of 2007 it was 301621157 - an increase of roughly 7%. In the same time frame, violent crime decreased by 0.5% overall - there was a decrease between 1999 and 2004 of roughly 5%, but the numbers have crept back up. The violent crime RATE has declined by approximately 10% between 1999 and 2006 (from 523/100k to 473.5/100k). Overall murders have unfortunately increased in number since 1999, by approximately 10%, with the murder RATE unchanged at 5.7/100k.Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim. akarunway 1 #29 August 9, 2008 Quote Quote Quote Quote We Americans are fully aware of the way the world sees us and the reasons for it. that's funny, most of "You Americans" dont have a frigging clue what happens outside your backyard. let alone how and why a world view might be of you. Just as funny, is that most people in the world tend to think that they understand the American ethos. WHile most of the world is occupied bitching about America, Americans are busy going about their lives knowing that these faults are rarely their fault. So Americans, as a whole, don't have a friggin clue about what's going on outside our backyard. Indeed, that's likely true, because here we've got a saying, "Good fences make good neighbors." In other words, "My business is mine, and yours is yours - unless you are invited." Now, our government is like every other - crashing others' parties. But we the People - we have our own business to worry about. What goes on outside my backyard? I don't care, so long as my backyard is kept out of it. The pervert neighbor? I built a better fence an he is no longer an issue. Perhaps he's jerking off on his back patio right now, but that's not my business. Incidentally - I mowed my lawn this morning. I guess I felt the need to take care of my backyard instead of fretting about what the neighbors were doing (though I did wait until 9:00 a.m. I see no need to disturb my neighbors' repose). The rest of the world has its reasons for doing what it does. I respect that. Americans have their reasons, too. We're too busy doing our own thing to be caught up in what Australians are doing. We don't mind that Aussies do things differently from us - or that we ddo things differently. America has been the leading worl innovator for the last couple of hundred years because we think differently. Viva la difference. So you're the motherfucker that woke me up at 9. Na. It was all the Mexican illegals mowing all my neighbors lawns that are to lazy to do it themselves. Think I'll go get my gun.I hold it true, whate'er befall; I feel it, when I sorrow most; 'Tis better to have loved and lost Than never to have loved at all.
