You can crazy emote if it makes you feel better but inflating your tires to near the upper limit, getting a tune up and slowing down are three proven ways to reduce your fuel consumption. It uses current technology and will have an immediate impact on gasoline reserves. And he never claimed that it would "fix" our energy problem. It will help. And it's a much more effective way of getting money in your pocket than simply opening up more leases so that the oil companies can warehouse them. So yes, his proposal is smarter and more honest.
