Brains 2 #3 August 4, 2008 It is an awesome sight to see it fly over. Every once in a while we get a couple come into Randolph AFB which is three blocks from my office. Most of the managers run outside to look whenever we hear something other than trainers go over Never look down on someone, unless they are going down on you. cocheese 0 #13 August 4, 2008 I had the Hangar 9 F-22 Raptor r/c plane for a while. I put two "whistles" in it to make it sound like a jet when going over 50 mph. Well the horse fly won. He bit me on the forehead and i crashed big time while trying to swat him away. That plane was cool too. Can't wait to see a real one.
BikerBabe 0 #14 August 5, 2008 when i was a young 2lt, i participated in a cockpit sizing study (i.e. measuring current cockpits with very short or very tall people in them to see reaches, space, etc) Got to travel all over the place and sit in just about every aircraft in the operational USAF inventory...but the best and most memorable was the trip to the plant in georgia where the first test models of the f22 were coming off the line...got to play around in a real f22 cockpit. very very cool! It looks like a video game console :PNever meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!

Does anyone think that military personnel (pilots and vehicle drivers in particular) are "better" today in any way because this generation has grown up playing videogames? is there an advantage to a pilot going into the Air Force, that he's played flight simulator games growing up? I think Reagan once upon a time said something to the effect that Nintendo was helping train the new generation of warriors...
vortexring 0 #16 August 5, 2008 Sure, it improves hand/eye co-ordination. I remember walking out to my training aircraft with the instructor for my first flight using the instruments.(You wear a 'hood' on your helmet, so simulate being in cloud/IMC) He basically said, don't worry, you'll be crap compared to the younger guys. On asking why he explained because, being older, I'd not been part of the playstation generation like the younger students. Have a look at a WAH-64 cockpit, especially the cyclic and collective and you'll see what I mean. 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" Icon134 0 #18 August 5, 2008 Damn... I was wondering if you got any good shots with the 100-400 zoom that the canon Rep was letting you play with... I guess these shots answer that question. auburnguy 0 #19 August 6, 2008 The engine noise from that plane is INSANE. It is the loudest plane I have ever heard. From what I have been told the planes have had some software glitches in flight but in another couple of years after they have been deployed for long enough im sure the few glitches they do have will have been sorted out. An F22 pilot told me it would take about 17 f-15's to make it a fair fight against 1 raptor, which seems completely believable to me. Given that, imagine what it can do too all that old soviet crap all over the world."If you don't like your job, you don't strike! You just go in every day, and do it really half assed. That's the American way." - Homer Simpson
vortexring 0 #20 August 6, 2008 You should hear the Vulcan bomber. Now that's loud! Still, maybe the Russians might have a reply. But then again, I remember the flap over the MiG 29. It wasn't until Germany became unified and the West got to really have a look, and realised that despite being a manouverable machine, the avionics were crap. I'd better quit post whoring on them then! give the mods a break. That has to be an insane task trying to catch up with all the post whores & fucktards, I know I wouldn't want to have to do it. ok divot what did you really do?Come on spill the beans! Well, if they ever come to repossess them, and they are met with soldiers at the gates of the airbase with rifles pointed at them, perhaps they can stick flowers into the barrels of those rifles and peace-love-happines will win them back the planes they "own." That seems believable to you? 17 to 1? It's not an x-wing fighter with lasers; it's a jet. I've fought Raptors a lot, it is a great jet. Lots of my friends fly them. But, 17 to one? C'mon... I guess they forgot about the times that they got gunned 1 v 1... It's more than the jet you fly -- it's about who's flying it. The Raptor is awesome, hands down the best jet in the world, but it has issues and nothing is beyond defeat.
