akarunway 1 #1 July 29, 2008 No warning, no last paychecks. Wonder what the CEO walked away w/? I saw Pizza Hut do it yrs. ago when I was told at the last min. to go rip all their signs down one morning. Bewildered employees standing out in the parking lot. Don't put your eggs in one basket people. http://cbs2chicago.com/local/bennigans.restaurant.shutdown.2.782428.htmlI hold it true, whate'er befall; I feel it, when I sorrow most; 'Tis better to have loved and lost Than never to have loved at all. I've seen several good companies go out of business in my neck of the woods, and it seems that the CEO's always ditched ship before they have to send their employees home empty-handed. How could a company just not pay their employees though? That just disturbes me. Does the CEO have immunity over employees suing over their last paycheck?=========Shaun ==========

Metromedia is a private company, so the higher-ups will definitely have some culpability. I don't know where the news article got S&A Restaurant Group as the holding company, Hoovers show MRG being a subsidiary of Metromedia Co., out of New Jersey. While there may be "official" dotted lines in the company structure, the fact that other restaurant units are not going under indicates to me that these employees could represent a class action against Metromedia. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! Worked for a company that almost ended up in this situation once. The company just flat ran out of money. Word was, we just weren't going to get a check that payday, and that was that. The plant manager mortgaged his house to pay his people (i.e. the whole plant), expecting to get paid back. HIS boss, the CEO, left him twisting in the wind. It all went belly-up a little later.
