lawrocket 3 #51 July 25, 2008 Quote>BOTH sides got us into this mess. It is a true sign of the times that even conservatives are now abandoning the "we are winning the war" mantra and starting the inevitable blamestorming over who is responsible for this quagmire. "It wasn't us - the democrats didn't stop it when they could!" Which is quite true, of course. No, bill. Not blamestorming. I do not agree that it is the Democrats' fault and not the GOP's. I am saying that CONGRESS passed a resolution authorizing Bush to take whatever steps he felt necessary. TO compare is to a therapist, "That's some hardcore enabling." These things being brought up now? They should have been brought up THEN. Those in Congress who were against it shouldn't have spent time calling Bush and idiot or mentioning how it's a juvenile attempt to get back at the guy who try to kill his daddy. Or mentioned how it's a power play to control the oil supply. Perhaps had they mentioned the sensible stuff, like, "These explanations make no sense because..." then perhaps the initial public support would have been there. Bill - you know I've always been against this war. Right from the start. But I don't put my blame solely on one group. The POTUS clearly failed in his responisbility to the country. But Congress had ITS duty, an it acted in an appalling manner. Or rather, inacted in an appalling manner. And right now, Congress STILL lacks the anatomy to do anything of substance. It's THEIR job to remove the unilateral authority they gave to the POTUS. And they won't do it. Recall, bill, that I mentioned there is no way the Dem Congress would o anything to end this war until after the election. HAve I been proven wrong? My wife is hotter than your wife. That right there is the crux of the problem.....the man has been incompetent in everything he has ever done, his excellent little adventure in Iraq is just more of the same. On the otherhand... you have Vinnie and others who will NEVER believe anything about their imperious leader that does not fit their world view...that has been carefully crafted for them. Its far easier for them to believe and to blame their so called liberals and defeat-o-crats rather than their incredibly flawed party that they believed in with such fervor, and has let them down so badly
philh 0 #56 July 25, 2008 "Maybe using mercury in vaccines is detrimental to a newborn's immune system. Again, most people don't realize that this is the case with many vaccinations. But do you even realize you have a choice as a parent? Most people don't. " ------------------------------------------------ and maybe faireies are in the bottom of my garden talking to the elves. But like your vaccine example there is no evidence to support either conclusion. The mercury vacine scare has been blown up by irresponsible journalists, promoting the idea that thimerrosal in vacicines was leading to increasing autism rates. This has effectivley been disproved because as a precautionatry measure it was taken out of vaccines in 2001 yet autism rates have still increased. There were also a number of detailed studies that reviewed the data and found no link eg: Doja, A., and W. Roberts. 2006. Immunizations and autism: a review of the literature. kallend 2,184 #57 July 25, 2008 We KNOW that the White House had access to all the intel, including that which we now know to have shown that the WMD reports were flaky. The people only saw and heard what the White House wanted them to see and hear. I suspect that goes for most of the Congress too. The White House is clearly culpable. It's not so clear that the Congress is culpable, just that it's weak kneed.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one. pirana 0 #60 July 25, 2008 Being anti-vaccine puts a person in the Tinfoil Beannie crowd. The only thing you will find to back you up are nutcase rants on Rense and sensationalist crap in the mainstream media with no supporting evidence. And maybe a few Chirocrackers. It's like the big scary clicky story on msn.com: Can Vaccines Actually Harm Your Child? Will The Earth's Core Stop Turning? View Alien Autopsy Evidence Here! The answer is a pretty firm NO, but they got you to click on it and that was their primary goal. The CDC statement quoted is the standard CYA disclaimer and can pretty much be ignored. Similar to the warning you get that you can die during orthoscopic knee surgery. Sure, could happen, but a stupid reason not to have the surgery." . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley

billvon 3,132 #62 July 25, 2008 >I am saying that CONGRESS passed a resolution authorizing Bush to >take whatever steps he felt necessary. I agree - both are certainly bear some responsibility. However, for the first several years of the war, the pro-war types spent much of their time portraying the anti-war folks as spineless cowards, unwilling to show the courage of the right wing in going after Saddam. People who thought the war was a quagmire were labeled unpatriotic or terrorist enablers, while people who supported the war were troop-supporting patriots. (Not saying you did this.) Now we have reached a point where even former war supporters are saying, essentially, "it's not our fault! The democrats didn't stop us from making a bad decision!" And there is indeed some truth to that - but is also a remarkable change in attitude, brought about by the realization that the war really didn't go as well as they hoped it would. The federal deficit has increased to a high never dreamed of a few years ago!!! Gas prices have more than doubled!!! Housing markets have collapsed across the country!!! the EPA has been gutted!!!!! Our food safety is at an all time low!!!!! 4000+ young americans are dead in a war that was a lie based on the need for greed rather than sound intelligence. Hundreds of billions of dollars have been wasted or disappeared from the US Treasury with literally no oversite!!!!!! And still the illiterate fringe right is blabbering how its all the liberals fault.....WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU PEOPLE SMOKING...... I dont want any!!!!!!!!! Fuck knows what they're smoking but perhaps you'd be better off picturing it all as some kinda gigantic wealth generator.
