QuoteNo. They do not bother me. In fact, people who have beliefs and stand for them typically do not annoy me. Even pinko socialists get my respect. Sure, they are often lacking in thought, and have a belief in responsibility for everyone else that is, in my opinion, downright religious, I don't have to agree with them.
Anyone who cannot handle someone else simply because of their religious beliefs should examine himself or herself as to the nature of their hatred.
At least I do have respect for those with balls enough to admit it, though. I'm not pissed off - just wondering why intolerance of religion is so extreme nowadays.

Xan't even stay on-topic. And those neo-con types......... compassion of a serial killer...........
Quotecompassion of a serial killer...........
Compassion for the wolf is death to the sheep, is it not? I've got compassion for the sheep. You have compassion for the wolf.
My wife is hotter than your wife.

QuoteThat's rubbish. The Bible absolutely does overlap with science, people simply choose to ignore the fact. Explaining the universe was one of the reasons the Bible was written...
Sorry God, I didn't realize you were watching the thread. My apologies.
QuoteSo Genesis isn't meant to explain the origin of the universe eh? Then why does the very first line do exactly that? It says goddidit.
Yeah that's the entire reason it was written. They had no where near the scientific understanding of the world around us that we do today. They didn't have a scientific explanation for it so they made up a fake guy and gave him credit for it. Religion was invented as a way of explaining the unexplainable. However with all the advances in scientific discovery we can now explain a lot of what was previously unexplainable but people refuse to accept this simply because religion is now ingrained in our society.

this right here is a complete demostration of how INVISIBLE much of the religous community is.
There are Catholics, and MANY mainstream Protestant, who do NOT use the Bible as a Science Textbook, and yet we get ignored.
Why do the mainstream moderates get igonored, and the Fundy Extremists get center-stage as the representatives of Christianity?
It is for the same reason that Osama bin Laden gets to represent Islam: A big fight makes the news.
We who are mainstream, sensible and rational, are FAR too borin to make the news. But yet we get lumped into the same category as the irrational Fundies.

how so? are you saying you accept everything science explains and just accept religion for the things it can't?
edited to add: yes science can't always be correct but the beautiful thing is we continue to study the same things and revise the science behind them. The church revises things maybe once a decade... if that.

People who queitly go about their business without forcing their beliefs on others generally get the same in return. If that's you call being ignored, then yes they're being ignored. Is that not what they want? It's what I want.

Wrong. Religion was created by man for the same reason as any other political system, to wield power over the masses. Spiritual Truth was given to us to unlock our minds, allowing us to see the beauty & love of God. The Bible was never meant to be a science textbook.

I disagree, that is a secondary reason. The main reason religion was started is to explain the unexplainable.
Nevertheless, you agree that we already have the "who" and this is a "how", a crap one perhaps but it is a "how". So it's clear that Genesis does make a rudimentary attempt to explain the origin of the universe. From this we also must agree that science and religion (in this case at least) do overlap. My point is that people ignore this overlap because the Biblical version of events is so ludicrous it cannot possibly be taken as the literal truth by anyone with an IQ above single digits.
