Do extremely religious people piss you off?

I can't help it. I just can't stand really religious people who try to push their views on me. You know, the people that have some remark that has to do with god or jesus or something from the bible for everything you talk about.

Probably why I stopped going to church... after my parents stopped forcing me to go. To be fair I have certain scraps of religion still left in my brain though.

IMHO, religion is for people who can't think for themselves and need to be told what to do and how to do it. Mindless cattle basically.

EDIT: BTW, this didn't just come out of nowhere, the abortion thread made me think about it.

Yes, I agree that people trying to push their views on you can be annoying. I don't care much for it too. (That's probably why I was a lousy Missionary...). Eitherway, on the other hand, I've seen too many hyper-sensitive people get offended and think people are trying to push religion on them when they simply are just trying to live their own beliefs.

Either way, I'm happy for you that you feel that way, just make sure the problem is with them, and not with you.

I really think religion is foolishness. That said I have many friends and family who are religious so I try not to ridicule them openly. If someone is pushy I just try to be polite. If I behaved any different I would be heavily discriminated against in this town. The truth is it doesn't come up that often.

I don't get too angry, but I do not like it when someone tells me I'm WRONG because I don't believe what they believe. I have an appreciation for many points of view and will openly listen to each of them so I can understand where they're coming from. I just ask that extremely religious people have that much respect for my beliefs...or lack thereof.

If they try to show their piousness.. good for them, just dont expect me to follow a specific dogma.
I wish more people would have a personal relationship with their diety of choice in private without all the I AM HOLY LOOK AT ME.. ....well at least those who do it only on Sunday morning... and then forget all about it for the rest of the week.

Too many christians seem to have the attitude that since they are christians.. they are forgiven... just for asking their god....and then go about being ugly nasty people to those around them.... then running for church on Sunday morning to get their weekly dose of absolution.

Churches in general seem to foster this.... and the priestly or preacher class preys on the idiots and want to appear to be helpfull in getting all that absolution.. for a price...

I said no, because it's only when they lack the ability to carry a conversation and do the stubborn horse thing that they piss me off. More often it's an excuse to prove to them that a atheist can be a better Christian than them. That or it's just kinda sad. I think it's demeaning to call such people cattle. To do so is to ignore whatever valid life experience lead them to what they believe, and only serves to prolong the game of pickle that people seem to think is religious debate.

That said, yes some such people do annoy me.

It is quite funny (peculiar) that religous people don't understand what is right in front of them yet they try to preach that they know the meaning of life.

If someone goes to church/mosque/temple... and lives their life the way they choose, then they are cool by me.

If they come around to my house and preach the bible and can't tell me where dinosaurs or the solar system/the universe fits into thier beleifs, then they really piss me off and usually end up walking down the driveway with their tails between their legs.

I have conclusive evidence of evolution but there is no conclusive evidence of creationism.

Faith my freinds is something that I have in my pack job, not some whackjob who can't substanciate their preachings.

so in the end extremely religious people do piss me off but they can be good for a laugh sometimes too.

There is no doubt in my mind that part of the problem is with me. I will admit that having a low tolerance for the people that think they are all high and mighty is a problem on my end. You can swear up a storm at me and call me what you want and I can usually tolerate it and ignore it. Yet when someone gets up on their high horse and calls me a bad person because I don't have the same beliefs as them, or that mine are wrong, it doesn't take much at all for me to snap.

I'm with what most others have said. Extremely religious people don't bother me at all and I try not to bother them.

I know some extremely religious people who are good friends, caring companions, and honorable people. I think that they are who they are in large part because of their beliefs and how they chose to apply them. They seem to really care.

I know some extremely religious people who really aren't good people. They seem to be trying to mask hateful deeds or thoughts with the idea that "admitting to sin" and "spreading the word" will somehow give them a pass in the afterlife they accept.

Your poll seems to be more about whether or not judgemental people piss other people off. Religion, ack.

I have a lot more respect for a religious person who follows a path that seems moral to them for whatever reason than with someone who wants to shift guilt from themselves by finding fault with me.

Well I don't talk to ministers much, I'm referring to people who turn everything political into a religious debate or people who turn anything they can into a chance to talk religion and tell me how my beliefs are wrong. It's annoying as hell. It's my parents responsibility? No don't think so. So sorry, I should be allowed to make my own choices. It's a parents responsibly to educate their child about choices not to force their own choices upon their child. And my parents are catholic, btw. (i know its a branch of Christianity but still)

Anybody (as said by OP) that finds a way to turn damn near every conversation into a statement about how much they love Jesus, and how Jesus is everywhere, and how love is everywhere, and on and on and on. Anybody who is so obsessed with anything that your 1st reaction is to watch out for the Kool-Aid needs help.

I have had a couple friends "Find" religion, or God or Jesus or love after having a very bad experience. They are the worst when it comes to Jesus is everything & everywhere behavior.

I'll bet there is a positive correlation between people surviving bad motorcycle accidents and finding Jesus. He must be a bit of an ambulance chaser.
