Darius11 12 #102 July 23, 2008 QuoteIf they love themselves, I can probably love them, too. I think that’s what it all comes down too. Not just in this discussion but most relationship problems and how you threat others has a lot to do with the way you feel about your self. I can understand if people get pissed in an airplane or some where the other person’s size actually effects you directly. However when you see people with so much hate for people they don’t even know or just for the reason that they’re not skinny it says a lot more about the hater then the fatty. But there is one thing I am trying to figure out what is considered fat? Do we go by the medical definition? Are they just repulsed by the people who are so fat that they can’t even walk fast? I guess I should have asked what everyone means by fat.I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not." - Kurt Cobain
PLFXpert 0 #103 July 24, 2008 QuoteWhere it invokes disdain in me is when people let themselves go to the point where they cannot do physical activities they want to. Or even walk down the street. There are relatively fit big people out there, and there are very unfit scrawny people out there. But the unfit big people out there bug me. Once you give up trying, it's downhill in a hurry. What he said, but I'd add an "unfit scrawny" person bugs me equally as much. I just realized, however, I must have a greater level of repulsion for the unfit big vs. the unfit scrawny. Because, when I see an unfit scrawny person (i.e. unhealthy) I feel very sad for that person. When I seen an unfit big person I'm rather indifferent.Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back. I guess I should have asked what everyone means by fat. Well the thread started out as just "fat." Then someone changed it to obese almost apoligetically. Then eventually and as expected someone else chaged it to morbidly obese. What I read into this is pretty much anyone who happens to be 20+ pounds overweight is repulsive. I do agree with you that we normally will project unhappiness with our own bodies onto others. Any psychologists here care to comment on that?www.FourWheelerHB.com
Skyrad 0 #105 July 24, 2008 I didn't realise that this thread was going to run like this, if I had then I would have been more specific in the first place. Just to be clear I never meant people who were carrying a few pounds. I mean the clinically obease. I would more agree with the original statement that "it says more about the 'hater' then the fatty". A fit skinny can be all hatin' on a fatty, whilst still being perfectly happy with their own bod, however jealous of the greasy delicious slop fatty's eatin' & the I-don't-give-a-shit smile on fatty's face.Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back. Which, btw, I do find amusing you left that out of the quote. www.FourWheelerHB.com

DZJ 0 #110 July 24, 2008 Fat people don't repulse me as such, but greed certainly does. As for what qualifies as 'fat', I'd say public transport is a fairly good yardstick - if your arse is four feet across and mashes your fellow commuters into the windows and doors when you sit down, I'd say there's a fair chance you're a fat bastard. Skyrad 0 #115 July 24, 2008 Lets try sticking to the facts. Repulsive is a word I have not used anywhere in this thread. i said that fat people repulse me. Repulse.. http://dictionary.cambridge.org/results.asp?searchword=repulse Try understanding the subtlety of the English language. This is a prime example of not seeing or simply not comprehanding the shades of grey. When an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy.
