BillyVance 35 #2 July 19, 2008 Interesting article. I had no idea. Then again, I didn't know there was a Central Connecticut State University. Oh yeah, a Hummer would crush a Prius in a head-on collision and only get a few scratches, maybe a small dent or two. I've known the Prius to be pricey, not worth buying for the money. What about the other hybrids? Where do they get the batteries from too? billvon 3,120 #3 July 19, 2008 >A Hummer (the car) does less damage to the environment than a Prius Was debunked years ago. Steel and chrome contains nickel; a Hummer contains a lot more nickel than a Prius does. (Doesn't matter much anyway - Sudbury was cleaned up decades ago.) In addition, all the numbers they use are off. 100,000 miles lifetime for the Prius, one of the most reliable cars on the road, vs 300,000 miles for the Hummer, one of the less reliable cars on the road? Looks like someone has an agenda.

Since Nickel is so bad (according to the article), we'd all better start by getting rid of all our stainless steel, which is where much of our nickel goes. Then no more jet or turbine engines (they use a lot of nickel), no more gasoline engines (they use a lot of nickel too)... Pretty much all high strength steel contains nickel, so do ship's fittings...... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one. rhys 0 #19 July 20, 2008 apart from being skewed and biased tthose statistics are old. Remember the conversation about how long it would take a prius to pay for itself with gas savings? Here is a quote from an articl posted by billvon Quote In May, 2005, Edmunds.com did an analysis for USA Today, and concluded the cost for advanced hybrid technology isn't "completely offset by gas savings and federal tax credits over the five years that owners typically keep their vehicles." The story proclaims, with dramatic flair, that hybrid owners would have to drive tens of thousands of extra miles a year, or gasoline would have to hit $5.60 a gallon before reaching the break-even point with a comparable gas-powered model. In May, 2005, Edmunds.com did an analysis for USA Today, and concluded the cost for advanced hybrid technology isn't "completely offset by gas savings and federal tax credits over the five years that owners typically keep their vehicles." That is what most of the world is paying. And it sure isn't going down in price. Those that bought a prius earlier were onto a good thing and to those that mocked them and bought a SUV......
