Who makes your favorite AR furniture?

I'm partial to the Larue Tactical vertical fore stock, the Yankee hill quad rail, the Magpul MIAD grip (and Magpul mags with ranger plates) and the 5.11 sling.

At least that's the list of stuff I'm buying over the next little bit and I'm looking for what others have tried and tested and like. Before you ask I don't need a 6-position, I already have the one I like.

As for BUIS I like GG&G, but I'm willing to take suggestions. The EoTech is not debatable. Not for the price and functionality.

Now if only Surefire had less expensive offerings. Looks like I'm going with Streamlight on that one just due to what I can afford, or I might adapt my beloved E2D and take it off my belt. I'd rather not since it would be "replaced" by a Streamlight Stinger as my primary hand light.

I use the YHM 4 Rail FF tube, with Knights Covers, they have a really good pebble grain texture and increases the fatness of it so that it fits larger hands.

I like the MIAD, but actually use the textured palm shelf grip, with the shelf removed, it allows a very relaxed grip, and is very comfortable.
.

See if the light you like can have the bulbs replaced with a CREE P4 emitter unit.

Cool.

I've finally taken the first step for changing my provided AR with my own AR so I can make the changes I've been wanting for the last couple of years. I will never personally own a Trijicon Reflex, that has to be one of the worst optics that you can buy. Sure its batteries will never die when you need them to work, but then again most artificial light sources wash out the optic so its worthless and you're using BUIS anyways.>:(

Dude, where did you get that picture of my AR?

I'm just kidding, I don't personally own that AR, its what was issued to me!

:o:P

PM me about your brake, I haven't seen it.

For short-barrel rifles, the stock Colt (Sporter) stuff works for me. Because it well, works. Looks cool too.

Look into Jpoint, great optic, only issue is you lose your zero anytime you have to change the battery, OTOH I've had batteries on those last 12 months.

I had one mounted on top of my ACOG, it worked beautifully, the best thing about it was you didn't have to drop your head to line your eye in the sight. Keep your head up and bring the buttstock up to your jaw and the sight lines up perfectly.

Sorry but Badger never did it for me. That and their handguards won't fit in the rack.

Yes Mike, we will go play. I'll see if I can talk the range into letting us walk down one of the rifle ranges for some scenario shoots. Require some transitions and the like.

Dude, this is a Chevy or Ford question.:D

When it comes to AR furniture it's a personal preference thing for the most part as long as the piece is functional and well made. Larue makes awesome furniture but so do many others. I use a complete Daniel Defense SPR upper w/quad rails, Tango down VFG and battle grip, MI's ERS BUIS, a VLTOR Modstock basic. I run a Noveske lower just because he puts that much more attention into his products.

I prefer the Eotech but have no problem with the Aimpoint M3 or 4 or a T-1. I also like that if I need to extend my reach, I can add the 3x magnifier behind any of those set ups and get co witness.

For slings, I've used them all and only one takes the cake IMO. The hands down best sling out there is the Larry Vickers Blue Force Gear Combat Applications Sling.

I like to keep my gun as simple as possible (read light) and avoid all the "tacti-cool" add ons the AR crowd likes to salivate over. I'm not looking for the CDI factor, just unquestionable reliability.

Dave, this is to be your work gun correct? How far are you allowed or should I say can you get away with in modifying it?

Sorry... I thought the question was "Who makes your favorite AR furniture? " :P I assumed that since you asked for opinions that you wanted to know what others liked so you could know about all the options. Not that you already had preset biases. (As mentioned above, kinda a Ford/Chevy type discussion. What cars do you like? Ford. Fords suck... not too much discussion there)

If fitting in your rack is your main criterion, then the Badger handguard won't do it for you.

Benefits of the badger, in my opinon, is the trapezoidal shape with a flat base that sits better on the bag, the mounting system is one of the easiest to install, all made in America (US parts, US made)

And yes, I will admit that I am biased as well... but just thinking that when asking for others opinions... shouldn't be so quick to dismiss.

Its a work gun and basically it can't get too radical. I haven't sent up a memo for under 16" barrel yet and I'm not sure I will, but I'm not sure if they would approve the memo. Although they did just recently approve someone's request to carry a FN-P90, so who knows.

No lasers, no magnifiers. That's pretty much it.

I'm going for simple, light, optic, flip up BUIS and a broom stick. I'll probably change up the grip since I really like Magpul's offering, same with the trigger guard. Beyond my ideas for what I want to do in my experience with the other AR I've been carrying, I'm more than open to ideas from people like yourself. You have more time with an AR then I have time sitting on the floor of a 182.:D

CDI is nice, but not more important then solid and dependable. If I have a long gun out I don't want to transition to a pistol. If I wanted a pistol I wouldn't have brought a long gun.

If light is your goal, getting a 10.5", 12.5" or 14" SBR barrel works nice as it is light and easy to maneuver with but it can be a bit loud(who cares really?) but it's perfect for in/out of the vehicle work. Since you're not making 300 m shots the shorter barrel isn't an issue IMO. Just keep in mind that if you do go SBR with it, you naturally have even less rail space to work with. Either way, an Eotech is a good choice but a T-1 is also a very good one since it is small and doesn't need a lot of rail space. Check out a very nice 10.5 in action here

Here it is, my AR is just about complete. The only changes I really want to do now is change to a Magpul MIAD grip and mount a light. I haven't quite decided on what light/mount combo I'm going to go with, though. I have a flip up front sight, but I haven't taken it to a gunsmith to get it installed yet.

DPMS, 16" barrel, flip up BUIS on the rear, EoTech 516 (I don't need the NV compatibility), Vickors padded sling, etc. Its all pretty obvious from the pictures.

All in all I'm really happy and I really like the EoTech over the other systems I've shot (Aimpoint, Reflex, etc).

I showed you mine, now lets see yours.

:D
