Of course. Unless the evidence is against them, in which case they rely on the old reliable "sheep-wolves" analogy and characterizations like "gun-o-phobes." "I'd rather be judged by twelve than carried by six!" is always a good one, with the hidden implication that not having a gun will result in your death. No emotion there. Nope. Strictly fact.

That's not the hidden implication. The implication is that not using a gun for fear of being punished for carrying or using a gun could result in your death.

The NRA is guilty of selectively using statistics. Definitely have a problem with causation/correlation. The other side is guilty of making them up out of thin air, and of using questionable definitions to make the groupings more scary.

Which is more emotional?
2.5 million (whatever the number) Americans use their gun to defend themselves against criminal attacks last year.

or

If you have a gun at home, you're 43 times more likely to kill yourself than an attacker.

Or the best:
10 children die every day from guns. (love those 20yo children)

>See your reponse immediately above - what's that about defensive and petulant, again?

The always-applicable "I know you are but what am I" defense! A favorite in schoolyards everywhere.

Sucks when someone puts your own tactic back into your face, eh?

Of course. Unless the evidence is against them, in which case they rely on the old reliable "sheep-wolves" analogy and characterizations like "gun-o-phobes." How often do you see THOSE arguments and from how many people, compared to the 'you don't care if criminals and the insane get guns' argument or similar pleas to emotion? How many people do you see making those pleas on the anti side? The antis argue from emotional standpoints MUCH more often than the pros.

For that matter, how many times have you seen ME make that type of argument, EXCEPT in response to accusations similar to 'redneck idiots shooting up stop signs'?

I don't expect you or any of the more liberal to agree with my points - I put the information out there in hopes that someone on the fence will look at it and make an informed decision - one based on something more than a "but what about the CHILLLLLllldren?" plea.

I love you, Shannon and Jim.
