T. Boone Pickens and His Plan

Recommended Posts

I went to his web site last week when the commercials started appearing on TV.

http://www.pickensplan.com/media/

Short story: He claims the US imports 70% of it oil (for transportation) at a cost of $700 billion per year. 22% of electric power generation comes from Natural Gas. His plan is to make that natural gas available for transportation by building wind farms. He claims that would reduce our dependence on foreign oil by 38% ($300 billion).

Pickens is worth $3 billion and is the chairman of the BP Capital Management hedge fund. He's already heavily invested in natural gas and wind farm infrastructure. He stands to make a lot of money if this plan is implemented. ;)

I've heard some summaries, he's heavily invested in wind, so he understandably has an interest in seeing wind power take a larger role.

However, he's taking the risks that more in the private sector need to make, without Congress or any of the clowns in Washington.

So, in broad strokes, I like his mindset. I'll need to read more about it.
So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh
Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright
'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life
Make light!

If he spends his time and works to implement this plan, then I am ok with him making some money. I certainly expect to get paid when I work.

The plan helps pollution, the foreign trade deficit, and the cost of food (by reducing the amount used for ethanol).

The price of oil may not change because of the demand by India and China.
