Did I miss anything besides Bush greeting the assembly with a cordial "Whassup Bitches?" (I heard that Harper tried to pants him after that one)
lawrocket 3 #3 July 9, 2008 We need some more anarchists to riot and protest it. It's the only way G8 ever gets press. The climate talks are going nowhere because the rich countries are being unrealistic with the poor countries, and the poor countries are being unrealistic with the rich countries. I can't see the G8 actually agreeing to cut their greenhouse emissions 90% by 2050, which is what Brazil, China, South Africa, India and Mexico want for cutting their domestic emissions. If you look at the comments by Carstensen, you can see exactly what the issue is - the US must do much more, because the US is much worse. Indeed, she called the attempt to have countries like China andd India reduce their emissions as "a shameless attempt to cloud the fact that a huge share of historic emissions is US made and that US per capita emissions are among the highest in the world." A little something about negotiations. An offer to have a country reduce greenhouse emissions by 90 percent is illusory - it won't work. And for the head of the UN organization to bash like that is pretty ridiculous. Why didn't he rail on Australia? Perhaps he should be focusing a bit on land use change, as well. After all, I understand that we're all about "net" in this. My wife is hotter than your wife.

Andrewwhyte 1 #5 July 9, 2008 It is important to know about these things. I know a guy who didn't know about the G8 meetings in Canada a few years ago. When he tried to drive though with a car full of pot he was rather dismayed when every car was being stopped and the dogs applied. Yep even bomb dogs will notice that much dope. Even drug mules need to keep up on current events.

Agreed, and I doubt much concrete will come out of the G8. But I am encouraged that every country (including, finally, the US) is taking the issue seriously. It has gone from "there's no such thing as global warming!" to "OK, so it's a problem, but someone else should fix it." At least we're headed in the right direction. lawrocket 3 #8 July 9, 2008 QuoteUS per capita emissions are BY FAR the highest in the world Prove it. I'll show you that even Australia exceeds the US in per capita. There are some other countries that exceed Australia. My wife is hotter than your wife.

Maybe the climate talks aren't going anywhere because the represented institutions at the event come together to give public rhetoric about solving problems, they themselves, create? billvon 3,120 #10 July 9, 2008 >the represented institutions at the event come together to give >public rhetoric about solving problems, they themselves, create? Sorta the definition of the G8 summit. (Applies to more than climate, as well.)
