crotalus01 0 #1 July 8, 2008 http://blog.aclu.org/2008/07/01/heller-decision-and-the-second-amendment/ The ACLU has decided that your Second Ammendment rights are a "collective" right despite the SCOTUS decision, even though the SCOTUS was 9-0 for individual right if you read the dissenting opinion. Hypocrites. Check out the link for their blog, over 800 comments, and only 4 of them positive (yes I read all of them ). Anyone else think they should lose their tax status for this? Its now obvious they are a political activist organization and NOT, as they claim, the defender of ALL of the Bill of Rights and ALL our Civil Liberties... crotalus01 0 #4 July 8, 2008 So, we’ve been getting a lot of comments about the ACLU’s stance on the Second Amendment. For those of you who didn’t catch our response in the blog comments, here it is again: The ACLU interprets the Second Amendment as a collective right. Therefore, we disagree with the Supreme Court’s decision in D.C. v. Heller. ------------------------------------------------------------ A civil liberties union defends ALL the civil rights of a US citizen. A political activist group interprets which rights a citizen is "entitled" to. ACLU claims in its mission statement to defend all of the Bill of Rights, then turns around and says they interpret the 2nd to be a collective right. Name one other place in the Bill of Rights where the term "the right of the people" is interpreted as a collective rather than an individual right.Perhaps you should read the comments left on their blog. Seems they are losing members left and right over this stance. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
kelpdiver 2 #5 July 8, 2008 A wiser ACLU would have gotten with the program and agreed it's an individual right, but the NRA is better suited to litigate on it, while we will continue to work the rest of them.
lawrocket 3 #6 July 8, 2008 The ACLU is a pretty vast organization and there are different chapters that do not necessarily espouse the same views as each other. I am sure that plenty local chapters support the right to individual gun ownership. My wife is hotter than your wife.
crotalus01 0 #7 July 9, 2008 Agreed Lawrocket. Problem is, this is the NATIONAL OFFICIAL position on the Second. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
lawrocket 3 #8 July 9, 2008 Yeah, it's bullshit. It's interesting that they argue every other right is an individual right - except this. Civil liberties? What the??? Then again, certain ACLU groups aren't even that big on the 1st Amendment. Plenty are of the position that "offensive" speech can be banned. My wife is hotter than your wife.
