WASHINGTON - Former President Clinton said through a spokesman Tuesday that he is committed to helping Barack Obama become president, his first comments in support of his wife's former rival since their primary ended three weeks ago.

No direct phone calls between old pals?

Quote

Relations between the last Democratic president and the candidate who wants to be the next one are frosty — they still haven't spoken in the aftermath of the heated campaign. But Bill Clinton extended an offer to help in a one-sentence statement from spokesman Matt McKenna.

Frosty? Like winter-in-Minnesota frosty? :D
Like, "I wouldn't piss on your wife is she was on fire" frosty? :D

Quote

"President Clinton is obviously committed to doing whatever he can and is asked to do to ensure Senator Obama is the next president of the United States," McKenna said.

It's not clear what Obama might ask him to do. The campaign wasn't specific when asked.

...probably something unprintable and involving a cigar.

Quote

During one debate Obama snapped at Hillary Clinton, "I can't tell who I'm running against sometimes."

Forgive and forget. I'm sure he still cares. ;)

Quote

Still, the former president is one of the most popular figures in public life and he drew large, enthusiastic crowds when campaigning for his wife.

The numbers weren't big, but the attendees were large, enthusiastic brunettes. :)

When asked if they would have sex with the former President, 82% said "never again", and 3% said "call me".

Perhaps an Obama-Clinton ticket is in the making.
Or, as Hillary calls it, the Clinton-Obama ticket.
That's only fair, seeing as how she won and everything.

I can see a little political kissy-face going on, but if he puts her on the ticket, it will be a "who's in charge?" battle from the start. She would be selling the "co-presidents" thing in 5 seconds.

Unless the nearly impossible happens and she ends up being the VP candidate . . . who gives a crap about the Clintons?

Quote

Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton have taken steps to join efforts in the last three weeks — she met with him privately, endorsed his campaign and will campaign with him Friday. But the former Democratic president and the man running to be the next one haven't talked since the campaign ended.

Basically, Hillary and Obama are talking. They have had private meetings. There is some basic political trading going on. Otherwise, no interest.

Quote

Obama spokesman Bill Burton said the 42nd president came up in a phone call between Obama and Hillary Clinton on Sunday. They talked about how Obama should connect with Bill Clinton in the future, Burton said.

It sounds like a lot of fence-mending discussions and maybe some political appointee chats. However, during the campaign, BC took a bulldozer to that fence.

Exactly. I'm sure McCain is hoping the same thing in regards to Bush campaigning for him. McCain to Bush, "Stay the hell away from me!"

Every conservative in America. Where would we be without "Clinton Did It First?"

Indeed - and where would we be without "It's all Bush's fault!"

Yeah, when Hillary asked BC to shut up, he'd pretty much lost his political advantage.

Who knows? Maybe he is the new Ted Kennedy. He'll just go around and say the unsayable because there is no downside to it.
What can you say about BC that would injure his "image"?

Quote

"He can connect in parts of the country where Senator Obama may need some help, like the Rust Belt, and it will help in further unifying the party after a fractious primary," said Kornblau, who was a spokesman for Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards.

Of course, that political strategy is pontificated by the number 3 candidate (second loser). The first person who brings up NAFTA will begin the grumbling.

BC strength is that he can connect with the white people, working people, and Hispanics that Hillary said do not like Obama.

Well I just wondering if he has promised her a spot on the SCOTUS after he is elected. This I'm sure brings great pleasure to many here in Speakers.

But in the words of that dummy Old Man Walter, "It pisses me off".

Well, that's not something a person can actually promise, well, not seriously at least. There has to be a slot open and the person also has to be approved by Congress. Also, I don't know how many seats have ever gone to non-sitting justices, but it certainly can't be more than a couple. Lastly, I don't think either one of the Clintons is qualified and I'm pretty sure Obama and both of the Clintons know that as well.

I'd give that about a million to one shot as something that's been discussed.

I seriously doubt Obama would even offer her a cabinet level slot, let alone a seat on the Supreme Court.

Although a ambassador slot in Nauru could be happily offered by Obama!

Or director of FEMA. You never hear from those sorts again.

Or for a really worthless do nothing position she could be the first appointment to the USPA BOD!

I don't think Senator Clinton will take the VP ticket. I don't think she wants it. She wants another shot in 2012, and she won't be able to take him on as VP.

Also, Senator Obama does not want President Clinton on that stage with him in Denver.

Obama has to be smart enough to realize that she wouldn't act like a VP either. (She hasn't even started acting like she lost yet.) Any move towards a VP slot would be just a run around the end.

I am sure that she would posture herself as co-President and expect that authority.

The events leading up to this point have been too harsh, even if they were in opposing parties. I don't see him forgiving either of them.

He needs her supporters to move over to him.
She needs him more. She needs him to fulfill her campaign promises.

She'll get some support for her pet programs.

I can't wait for the 180 degree turn. "Sure I told you that he was inexperienced before. Jus' kiddin'. He's great."

WASHINGTON - Democrat Barack Obama on Tuesday asked his finance team to help Hillary Rodham Clinton pay off a debt of at least $10 million from her failed presidential campaign, setting the stage for joint appearances by the two former rivals later in the week.

You gotta admit, he's one helluva nice guy.
He wants his friends to give her $12 million.

I used to think he was brighter than the last part though. I mean, after all the crap she gave him, I can't imagine why he would ever want to share a room, much less a platform with her.

Quote

The former first lady reported a $22.5 million debt at the end of May, more than half of which was a personal loan to her presidential campaign. Clinton, in a call to her top fundraisers last week, said she would concentrate on paying off money owed to vendors, not her personal loans.

:D:D:D I almost peed myself after reading the last part. Sure...

People who "loaned" her 12.5 million must be really trusting too. Nobody "loans" me a million bucks.
:)

Oh well, McCain can save his money and stay home.
All he has to do now is to wait for Hillary to implode the Obama campaign.

In The News:
"McCain announces a plan to drop irradiated whales on mosques in California. Hillary joins the Obama campaign."
"In other news, Democratic leaders concede defeat and leap from windows."

Remember, she's still only "suspended" her campaign. She could burn this party down in August if she wanted to. Her graceful bow-out is going to cost the party dearly, and someone, somewhere said something akin to, "Get out your check book if you want me out" on a conference call...

Senator Obama is a "brand newby" on the national political scene...he has about as much control over his platform as I have a full left leg. ;)

Most of that "personal" loan was from "her" to her own campaign.

Her entire loan debt is $22M. She loaned herself $10M.

Obama wants his contributors to pay off the "non-self" loans of $12M.
;);) (I've never found a better use of the winky.) :D

Even when BC got fined, contributors paid off the fine.
