Will the Government lie to you?

Jack Alderson was my Skipper in 1966/67 while I was part of Project SHAD.

Lets see how the hardcore (my govt. will take care of me) vets will respond. Do you really need an answer to this question.

I won't try to defend this, it was a different generation of people in government and the military back then.

What I can tell you without hesitation, is that it is the Vietnam generation that has ensured the current generation of vets are getting orders-of-magnitude better care from A-Z. They have done so, at the expense of their own cause, and that shows how great a generation they are.

I believe the VA will clear the way, but it will be a trudge.

Edit to add:
I did find some information that may be helpful for any vets from that time, and might have been involved in Project SHAD:
www.projectshad.org

They also outline some contact information and a hotline contact at the VA http://www.projectshad.org/contact.htm

Unfortunately, the site doesn't look like it's been keeping up with recent events.

I found this on OSD site: http://fhp.osd.mil/shad/faqs.jsp

But, in case the question doesn't pop up, here the text I'm citing:

Question
Many of those involved in these tests may be reluctant to come forward for security reasons. What will the DoD and the VA do to ensure they know they may come forward?

Answer
Some veterans have told us they are concerned about possibly releasing classified information about these tests when discussing their health concerns. We have discussed these concerns with staff at the Department of Veterans Affairs and advised them that veterans may provide details that affect their health with their health care provider. In turn, the VA included our response in their notification letter:

"You may provide details that affect your health to your health care provider. For example, you may discuss what you believe your exposure was at the time, reactions, treatment you sought or received, and the general location and time of the tests. On the other hand, you should not discuss anything that relates to operation information that might reveal chemical or biological warfare vulnerabilities or capabilities."

Veterans are welcome to contact our staff at (800) 497-6261 for confirmation that they will not violate security requirements by stating that they were involved in Deseret Test Center tests.

Also, it's likely the VA knows about this too:
Quote

Question
Have you provided names to the VA?

Answer
Yes, for each fact sheet that we published we provided the VA lists of those known to be involved. Because crew lists and unit rosters are not classified, we provided them to the VA while the declassification effort was underway. This gave the VA an opportunity to begin converting service numbers into social security numbers to find addresses for these veterans in advance of the announcement.

So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh
Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright
'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life
Make light!

Did the DoD and DoE cover up deliberate exposure of military and civilians to radiation during the cold war? Did the government experiment on sick men at Tuskeegee?

Is the Pope Catholic? Does a bear crap in the woods?
