idrankwhat 0 #76 May 15, 2008 Quote They call it pro-choice to avoid use of the 'a' word. "Pro abortion" would be the position that the government has the duty/right to step in and force people to have abortions for one reason or another. A pro-choice advocate would disagree with that notion as well.
wmw999 2,589 #77 May 15, 2008 Unlike some others, I was actually an active card-carrying feminist in 1974, shortly after Roe v. Wade. We didn't say we were pro-abortion. We didn't say we were pro-choice yet either; pro-life (as opposed to anti-abortion) was just becoming common parlance. We wanted abortion rights; i.e. the right to a safe abortion as a choice of the mother. It was pretty solidly recognized that the father should have a say, but that he generally wasn't the one going through the pregnancy. Pro-choice is more accurate than pro-abortion for most of the feminists I knew then, and know now. Wendy W.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)
Channman 2 #78 May 15, 2008 QuoteQuoteQuote For the Hagee/Parsley issue. Well, timing is everything and I think it just didnt fit right now. I do think you will see it come back. Probably so, but only if the Wright nonsense is continued to be used as the swiftboaters ammo. I would disagree with you on Wright. His attitude is exactly why racisim lives on. (and those like him that exist on both sides) Obamas wife agrees with Wright as well. Have listened to any of his "sermons" all the way through? Scary shit >"exactly why racisim lives on." Thinking of all the Amens and those agreeing with his comments located in the back ground as well as those in the congregation. Rev. Wright is doing his part in keeping his people pissed off. But oddly, I don't hear you complaining about that. How strange! It's almost as if you have different standards based on who you dislike.

idrankwhat 0 #81 May 16, 2008 Bueller? Wow, this is the second time this week that Crusader Parsley has killed a thread on this topic. Let's hope it works again this summer on a national level.

Is a silly thing to complain about (which I assume you'll continue because you have nothing to contribute w/r/t point 1). .jim"Don't touch my fucking Easter eggs, I'll be back monday." ~JTFC
Lindsey 0 #86 May 16, 2008 Calling people "hillbillies" simply reveals that you're a Klansman with a different colored hood. Heck, there's nothing about being called a hillbilly that's offensive. Don't know many hooded people (or any people for that matter) who have wished or enacted harm on a person because he's a hillbilly. That's a whole 'nother problem. The part that's offensive is what was added later about being too uneducated and stupid to make decisions for themselves. I assure you that not many hillbillies around here are THAT.-- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged. skydyvr 0 #88 May 16, 2008 Quote>reveals that you're a Klansman . . Your one warning. Well it was supposed to be just colorful metaphor or whatever, but perhaps to strong. Sorry. My whole point is that the term "hillbilly" is often used in a derogatory way, as in the orignal example, just the same as all the derogatory terms we have for every single other "group". I find it interesting that some folks take seriously some of the terms but not others. The term "gook" was used in here the other day and the poster caught hell for it. Nothing similar (outside of me) took place for "hillbilly". Sort of interesting, that difference of perceptions. . . =(_8^(1)
