GOP using Obama's line?

Recommended Posts

Following yesterday's loss of another House seat (in Mississippi), RNC chairman Cole said:

"Voters are pessimistic about the direction of the country and the Republican Party in general" and the GOP must offer 'positive change.'"

VP Cheney campaigned for Davis the day before the special election, and GOP candidate Davis ran ads trying to tie Childers to Barack Obama, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and the national Democratic Party's policies.

Well, that strategy worked well for them -- NOT.

Apparently it didn't work. The Republicans are likely to lose some more seats I think. They've played softball with the left for far too long.

This democratic congress has been some smashing success, eh? The RNC should have highlighted that better. How about the first 100 days of Speaker Pelosi? End to earmarks? Etc? They played softball - they paid. They've done a horrid job as the minority party in Congress, unlike the Democrats, who did a decent job (for representing their interests at any rate; horrid for the US populace).

GWB is so reviled that the left has been able to get a pass on their HORRID performance in control of the legislative branch. The right has allowed them to do so and will pay the price. To the detriment of the country.

The earmark trend line started downward when they took over. Massive improvement? No. Right direction? Yes.
And it sounds to me like you think the Dems should go for the "nuclear option" if they want to be effective. I mean the R's of the 110th did set a record for the greatest number of filibusters in a session. Is that "softball"? It used to be called "thwarting the will of the American people".:P
Maybe the Dems should run away from minority members and have their committee meetings in secret or hold votes open until they can berate a congressman into submission or hold roll call votes the middle of the night like their predecessors did.
And for the record, I'm not serious. I like to think that's why the baton was handed across the aisle in 2006.
But look on the bright side, at least they're trying to pick up on some of those executive investigations that the R's promised us, but for some reason couldn't find time to complete.;)

True, professor. It makes me wonder which party is more incompetent - the democrats or the republicans.

The Dems are destroying themselves. The Repubs seem to lack any clear message. The GOP is STOOPID enough to run ads painting Obama as a bad guy. Having Cheney campaign for you is not a good idea, either.

Such incompetence!

tough call, when most every national politician would switch parties in a second if they thought it could provide them a little bit more influence

Their (not all, but most) real allegiance is to the hidden letter behind their name.
"Congressman (I)" for "Incumbent". Gotta keep accruing that "free speech" in their bank accounts. Either that or the health care that Congress gets is da bomb!

Or sell anyone of us out just to put a little more change in there own pocket. What a joke. It's really funny because they act like we are to stupid to notice.
If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck!

What nuclear option are you speaking of? Reducing the required # of senate votes for cloture? Not sure where you got your stat on filibusters - never heard that before. I'd be interested in seeing a breakdown/data on that. Republicans play softball by not taking on the left head on as they tend to do with them. And what investigations are you speaking of?

The right lost the Legislative branch in '06 for several reasons - their poor performance in the majority included.

Yea, it was pretty much under the radar and I just for the life of me can't figure out why the "liberal media" wasn't all over it;)
Google "GOP breaks record for filibuster". Apparently they broke the all time record with almost a year to spare. I don't have the specifics on the issues because I don't care enough to look them up. I just mentioned it because I wanted to point out how it's "thwarting the will of the American people" when the R's have a single vote majority but, not so much when the Dems are in the same position.

Obstruction by filibuster might be considered by some to be "taking them head on".

The second part of the 9/11 investigation, torture, spying, etc. Unfortunately they're letting the Executive branch shut them down this election year. I guess they don't want to look like they're harassing during the campaigns, even though they're just doing their job[:/]

No argument there. But to clarify, I really couldn't care less if we called them all Demoblicans or Republicrats.

I'd have to see a breakdown to have an opinion on the filibusters. I do NOT support filibusters for votes on Presidential appointees but do think they have a role for other legislation. If they were filibustering something goat-fuck stupid - like the recent Armenian genocide vote, I wouldn't really give a rats ass.

If the Dem's aren't pursuing investigations then I think they're being stupid. Then again, they pursued the Plame case and the person who admitted revealing her former CIA connections wasn't even charged.

Oh the unbearable shame..... Sounds to me like something you'd want to put on a resume if you were running for office this year. He should thank the Reptilians for their help - and on their dime !

Yes, but positive change is smaller Federal Government, lower spending, lower taxes, no meddling in the economy, allowing us to build refineries, nuclear plants, drilling. The Dems are VERY good at all that.
The forecast is mostly sunny with occasional beer.

I'm not sure that they are, but they are sure better than the GOP when it comes to spending, deficits, debt, matching revenues with expenditures, etc. The two biggest ever contributors to the US national debt are called Reagan and Bush.

We've had 2 Dem and 5 GOP administrations since 1980. How many nuclear plants were started under Reagan and the Bushes?
