happythoughts 0 #1 May 10, 2008 Why are they promising them now? The front runners are all Senators. Currently elected officials and legislators. In some cases, they claim to have formerly held the power of the Presidential office as "co-Presidents". Ok. If all their campaign promises are such swell ideas, why didn't they try to implement them? Most have had, at least, the last 4 years... If they did try, why did they fail? The latest promises are: Some super-healthcare program. Enhanced military, or anti-terrorism, or crime fighting. Green stuff. Billions for Solar Power, Wind Power, Super Clean Coal, Newk-u-lar Power... blah, blah. If they could have done it, either they failed to do it before, or it's just words. Coal jobs in Virginia... Manufacturing jobs in Ohio... Sure. It doesn't matter the party. Campaign promises are forgettable and unenforceable.

happythoughts 0 #3 May 10, 2008 I just can't understand it. It's like a huge failure in the only test that matters. The Gullibility Test of Life. It gets to be the last month of a political campaign, so the politician says, "Oh, this cool idea just hit me. I am going to..." The politician who has been in politics for the last 20 years of their life and never done anything about some obvious problem, or applying a solution. Are they going to do it? No. In some cases, they are going to do everything in their power to make the situation worse, because someone contributed $3 million to their campaign. How long were the Clintons in the White House? How long has McCain been a Senator? Obama? Obama is bowling. Hillary is doing shots in a bar. (Thank God it wasn't Coyote Uglys). Our former state Governor funded some hydrogen powered cars and gave grants for solar research. It's nice to see actual action.
