BillyVance 35 #28 May 6, 2008 I believe I am just going to worry more about the General Aviation fee proposal affecting my skydiving than I am about a govt agency restricting access to a place I likely would never set foot on anyway. Amazon 7 #30 May 6, 2008 It was from a source promoting tourism to the area. http://www.picacho.org/dangers/asbestos.html Which has this at the bottom of the page... GeorgiaDon 380 #31 May 6, 2008 This study (http://www.ajph.org/cgi/content/abstract/86/2/179?ck=nck) examined the "amphibole hypothesis" (the idea that the effects of asbestos are due to amphibole, and chrysotile is safe) and found no difference between amphibole and chrysotile asbestos for health risk. Sorry, but the pdf is too big to attach. Health issues aside, would it be safe to assume that if we had to choose between protecting the only known population of an endangered species and having one more place to ride your ATV, you'd side with the ATV? As I suggested, it's not really a case of "one more place" in California. There are very few available areas, despite the landmass and the 38 million residents. kelpdiver 2 #41 May 6, 2008 so how many people that weren't riding ATVs suffered in this park? (or how many that are riding ATVs?) First you talked about the existence of threats, now about the signficance of the threat. The analogy certainly holds on the first, appears to on the second. CSpenceFLY 1 #42 May 7, 2008 That's kindof where I was going with that. There does not need to be an actual threat or danger, only a perceived threat or danger. When the tree huggers get tired of us burning jet fuel for fun all they have to do is sell someone on the danger and we are fucked. Kind of like the users of this area. The Loma Prieta (Bay Area) chapter of the Sierra Club is the worst example of what you cite. They don't even want to share the hiking paths with bicycles. And the well to do of Berkeley are so reluctant to share their hills with the football team 7 Saturdays a year that they'll use earthquake faults and the common Oak tree to stop it. Amazon 7 #45 May 7, 2008 What most people in this country dont know is that there are mine sites all over this country that are nothing more than toxic cesspools left behind by companies and shareholders who made their profits.. then ran away from any responsibility of cleaning up their messes. This is just one of thousands of such places in the west that will be killing people and other animals for centuries to come. Most of the time it is out of site.. and cant possibly hurt you ...right??
