the reason so many people LOVE America

Recommended Posts

That list in the other thread's a little puny, imho. I bet THIS list will end up much bigger and better (just like the good 'ol US of A...heh).

One thing that I love is the drive. The drive to just about anywhere is awe-inspiring. Of course if ya' start off in the Ozarks, it's beautiful from the get go...so you can't go wrong.

Well, that's true in a whole lot of places. But in America, things work. You know that most employees in most places of business have an assigned purpose and execute it, and that standing in line and taking your turn will get your needs taken care of.

We trust our systems, and generally with good reason.

That's not exclusive to America. We can do the same in England. Actually in Europe we can cross into other countries too.. Can the same be said if you drive to Mexico or Canada?

and I bet within 10 posts the usual crowd will start pissing all over it and it won't be any better than any other stereotype-filled bashfest.

But that would be respectful and tolerant of others.

What's wrong with you? You should immediately demean anyone that doesn't share your beliefs. immediately. right now.

Great thread! Thanks for starting it!

Why? Because myself & others heartily believe (word chosen intentionally) that we have and we can do amazing things – for ourselves, for our fellow Americans, and yes, even for the world. I’m not an isolationist by any means.

The U.S. Constitution is the framework for what I see as the greatest experiment in representative democracy that the world has ever seen. While we may disagree vehemently on who we would like to see occupy the Oval Office and the Capitol, very few Americans want to overturn the rule of law by representative democracy as conceived, debated, and put into practice by that group of imperfect men 220 years ago.

We have an amazing level of heterogeneity, what used to be called the “American melting pot,” that somehow we’ve made work. It’s been painful at times; truism: more painful for some than others.

To closely paraphrase the vice provost for international affairs at Harvard University, the United States has been the leading architect of the international laws and organizations sculpted in the wake of World War II. It built this multilateral framework because it was useful and because it was right. One might speculate that garnered America more respect than any military power victory.

To closely paraphrase Archbishop Desmond Tutu: More than anything else, the United States is looked upon fondly for its remarkable generosity. Europe will never forget the charity of the Marshall Plan after the devastation of World War II. America needs to be reminded that its history and example have provided millions with inspiration for their own struggles for freedom, democracy, and a better life.

America has in the past and can be in the future President Reagan’s vision of the shining city on the hill. Justice and liberty for all are words and a vision that, to co-opt Sen Obama's words, I cling to. It’s the intangible as much as the tangibles (people, geography, & civil rule of law) that I love about America!

It's still there.

darn, that makes it 10 posts. I stand corrected.

and join the thread -

I've traveled a lot internationally so:

It smells better than many other countries with a LOT less pollution just about everywhere

The opportunities are huge and have benefitted me and my family

Skydiving opportunities and access to world class coaches

There's plenty of land, we don't have to live in mini-houses if we don't want to

There's always other places to go if you don't like an area

We aren't socialist or facist or under a dictator. We can speak our minds and not get shot

our people are much more polite and open minded and accepting of other cultures in our own back yard - sometimes to a fault

- The toilet paper. It's just never as good, even in well developed countries.

- Like Kallend said, General aviation.

- Opportunity.

- The middle class.

Nah, I don't really care to explain much other than the toilet paper one.
Oh, hello again!

I love America because my children will have the opportunity to acheive more than I did and I am happy with what I have acheived.

And America has baseball...the greatest game ever.

Wow I don’t have enough time to list all the reasons but start with.

Freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeedooooom Baby

Its big I mean its huge in every way. You can do anything. Drive anywhere. Be anything.
I feel like I control my destiny, and having a good life is easy compared to other places.

Variety in everything. People, food, opportunity, choice of life where to live etc

Melting pot- we have people from everywhere here. So many different cultures to learn and experience.

Oceans- I fucking love the oceans, trees everywhere, clean parks.

Freedom it deserves to be said again and again. I am an outspoken Iranian who has never felt the need to hide who I am or what I stand for. Even when my home country is called evil by the government. That is freedom, that is tolerance.

My Baby she is All-American and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Oh yea ZZ top. Sorry I am, just listening to them right now but they rock.

I believe its the opportunities afforded to so many who are willing to work harder than those around them.

I enjoy the vast diversity of people and ideas there are here from literally every country in the world.

I think it stems from those who had such a profound set of ideals and goals that they set down on paper 200+ years ago.

I would hope that every American remember those ideals of freedom that those men fought for...even though they were not as completely inclusive as they might have been to others who did not look as they did at the time.

I would hope those freedoms remain freedoms and not just a buzzword that is used in soundbites in political rallies.

I think people in general all around the world have a really good heart.

What I like about America:

-Its diverse landscape, people, cultures and ideas.

-The freedoms to be who you truly want to be.

-We do complain about our government but the basic structure is damn near perfect. As Marg pointed out, our Constitution.

-It's not perfect, but our education system is overall something to be proud of.

-Our generosity. Not only on the governmental level, but individually also.

-We truly are working on improving the environment. Once again not only on the government level but individually.

-Term limits for Presidents. After the last 2 administrations, I think this is something both the right and the left can agree on.

-Not perfect, but our healthcare is excellent.

-It truly is a land of opportunity (I say 'a land' as I know there are many other countries that can also claim this).
