I think the reason is because people eat the shit that they're given, and in large quantities, without putting up a fuss.

Yes, people look for the lowest price. The thing is, prices haven't really gone down to the degree that quality has. Which basically means corporate greed rules the day. And consumers take it, and keep bending over, questioning nothing, their minds numbed by unspeakably stupid television programs that they get hooked on.

Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

It can always be worse. I live in Egypt - in order to get the internet, you have to take your money to the office (and there are only 2) and give it to them. Then you wait for 3-4 weeks. Then you get a call at 11 o'clock at night saying there is a lock on your line and they can't do anything until you fix it. Then you have to track down the person who lived in your apartment before you and get them to go to the office and work things out (cash works well here). Once that's done, you continue to wait for another 3-4 weeks, wondering what they are doing with the money you already gave them. Then someone comes to your apartment to 'install' it. Once you get it working (very lucky to get it working the first time around), you find out that you only get 1/2 the speed you are paying for. Why? Because it's Egypt and that's what they do.
