Mofia vs. Gov't - Corp

Recommended Posts

I was watching a special on HBO the other night. A statement Bob Newman said struck me, "When the 'boys' ran Vegas it was a well oiled machine that everyone enjoyed and felt special. Once corporations took over it lost it's luster and warmth."

Wow, where is america going? :S

Pissed because he didn't get his "comps" anymore, perhaps?

That was something that was talked about. Back in "the day" there were more "comps" give to the "common folk". Which motivated more gambling which brought in more money.

Vegas is much different now in many ways. There are actually things for kids to do there.

What you're saying is the reason why I tend to stay off of the Strip. Downtown is where I always found better action. I've never dropped enough money to get comped. The comps are there for the folsk who won some real money.

These places will comp you things if you just won $20k. And they'll hope that you end up giving it all back, and they'll encourage you to do so by playing some high limits. It's only a matter of time.

I can't help but think that Vegas LOVES that this new moive is out about the card counting club. There will be a lot of people who go to Vegas thinking they can do the same thing, and wind up hosing themselves because they can't.

Vegas has lost some of its luster. In return, it's lost some of its dinge.

Want an experience like old Vegas? From my experience, go to Laughlin.

I think you're right. I read an article a while back about the MIT blackjack team. It was mentioned that one mistake per hour eliminated the team's advantage over the house. Two mistakes would reduce their chances of winning to less than if they were not counting cards.
Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

I have only been once and was not that amused since I don't gamble. I have always enjoyed the old movies about Vegas during the Rat Pack days. When Newheart was talking he was saying how people dressed up to go to clubs/shows it was more of an event.

I've dressed up the last couple of times I've gone to Vegas. I was in Tahoe for New Years a few years back and had a tuxedo. There's something about it that aids not only in the feel and the environment, but hot women think you must be really important and tend to want to spend some time with you.;)

Yeah. Just don't sit between the Hells Angels and the Mongols. Or if you do CCW. ;)
I hold it true, whate'er befall;
I feel it, when I sorrow most;
'Tis better to have loved and lost
Than never to have loved at all.
