Another Day, Another Hooker Scandal
By Liza Porteus Viana
Apr 2nd 2008 1:32PM

The news today is that Thomas Athans, the husband of U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., paid $150 to a prostitute for sex at a Troy, Mich., hotel in February. Athans, co-founder of liberal talk radio network, Democracy Radio, has been married to Stabenow since 2003.

The Detroit Free Press obtained a copy of the police report under the Freedom of Information Act. It says Athans, 46, was not arrested or charged, but agreed to fully cooperate with police in their investigation into Internet-based prostitution at city hotels.

The Free Press reports that Athans was pulled over by police on I-75 minutes after leaving the Residence Inn on Livernois, Mich., the night of Feb. 26. He was driving a Cadillac DeVille registered jointly to him and Stabenow at their address in Lansing. He was ticketed for driving on a suspended license. During that stop, Athans admitted he had been at the hotel with a woman he met on the Internet and that he paid her $150 to do the deed. Police later went to the hotel and arrested the lady of the evening.

The Detroit News has some more details of what police found when they entered the room where the transaction took place. The police report said Athans was only in the room for about 15 minutes that night before he was seen getting into his Cadillac.

"This is very disturbing and serious. Obviously it's a deeply difficult and personal matter," Stabenow said in a statement issued Wednesday morning in response to the newspaper's story.

If you are in the political life or are related or married to someone who is, stay away from the hookers! Put the bitch down and just walk away. Someone will find out about it somehow.:S

Without knowing actually what happened, does anyone else find this really strange?

Seems like a rather weird thing to just offer up.

Cop: Excuse me sir, do you know why I stopped you?

Idiot: Is it because I just came from that hooker?

Cop: Well, no sir, it's because I clocked you going 65 mph is a school zone.

Idiot: Holy crap! Is there a school zone right next to the hotel where I just left the hooker?

Cop: Well, sir, I'm not exactly sure, but there is a school zone right here. Can I see your license please?

Idiot: Crap! I think I left it with the hooker.

:D:D
That's what I was thinking. And the article doesn't say why they pulled him over in the first place. I doubt that leaving a seedy hotel is probably cause....

So now brilliance is required to use an apostrophe properly. Well, OK, that tells us something about your standards.

Oh sh.t!! :D

Reminds me of his COLEGE, BOY IS HE SMART thread.

Apparently correct spelling and grammar are only for the bleeding heart liberal elitists.

Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

So how come HE wasn't arrested too ? Isn't it also illegal to avail oneself of the illegal services of said prostitute ? Well idn't it ? Oh, of course, the guy's a Senator's husband.

I see no reason why a woman should be arrested and treated like a criminal if she chooses to sell her sexual favors. As long as her choice is free and voluntary, both she and her customers should be left alone. If you want to pass an ordnance against hustling on the street, fine. If you want to license the profession and charge a fee for the license, also fine. If the woman's being coerced, then deal with whoever's coercing her by arresting them and letting her go.

But once again, it's the woman who has gone to jail, while the man of means, who creates the demand, walks free. It's just wrong.

Onward to proposals for fitting punishment...

In the case of politicians versus prostitutes wherein prostitute pays and john plays---a role reversal with said john peddling blowjobs wearing pink spandex tights and pumps strutting the boulevard soliciting fellow social miscreants riddled with disease and being forced to swallow---no pun intended---the penalty appears appropriate. They can even keep the money they earn while "working."

Of course the problem with this program is that the politicians turned hookers will require security personnel to protect them from the other hookers and pimps and the cost of providing the program will prevent the proposed solution from gaining traction although if it was offered on a voluntary basis it may clean the halls of congress.

Why not just legalize, tax, and regulate the profession, like some counties in Nevada, or most countries in Europe do ?

I was just kidding and of course referring more to the johns than the pros. But yes regulating the industry would hopefully prevent some of the badness associated with the business in general.
