happythoughts 0 #27 April 1, 2008 Quote Sen Clinton is a member of the United Methodist Church. VR/Marg And they are proud of it. She was going to be a Catholic until she heard about the "confession" part. "No, Father, I have no recollection of those, or any, sins, in my current, or historical, past of the nature that are proscribed by scripture... amen." Shotgun 1 #28 April 1, 2008 QuoteShe is only claiming religious affiliation to further her political aims . . . A politician mentions his/her religion? I assume it is to further his/her political aims. May or may not be true, but I figure it's a good assumption most of the time. This is a country of predominantly "religious" people, so it makes political sense to at least pretend to be affiliated with one of the major religious sects. It may not be honest in some cases, but politics doesn't seem to be very conducive to honesty.
Lindsey 0 #29 April 1, 2008 As long as I've known the Clintons (since I was a child), they've been people who attend church. I don't know that anyone is better equipped than she is to speak to her religious beliefs and moral convictions. linz-- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged. happythoughts 0 #30 April 1, 2008 Quote Quote Could say that about a bunch of jumpers too. We just run in different circles. How many of your friends are dead? I have a few. The difference is none of my friends ended up with bullets in there head before they were going to testify. When I was in college, our statistics class did the same type of scenario on JFK. There is actually a book for the class called, "How to lie with statistics" used to educate us on how people twist facts. Presidents know a lot of people. You could do the same for rock stars too. "A long time associate of Steven Tyler died of a drug overdose under suspicious circumstances..." Of course, the difference is that the Clinton associates committed suicide by shooting themselves... ...in the back ...6 times ...with a single shot pistol. nerdgirl 0 #33 April 1, 2008 QuoteAnd they are proud of it. She was the invited speaker at the General Conference a few years back, so yes. QuoteShe was going to be a Catholic until she heard about the "confession" part. On what do you base that? It is my understanding that she has been a life long United Methodist. If you (or anyone else reading) is genuinely interested, here's a link to an article from the Christian Science Monitor on her religious background and private role of faith and spirituality throughout her life. CSM also did articles on the religious backgrounds of Sen McCain, Sen Obama, and Rep Paul. happythoughts 0 #34 April 1, 2008 QuoteQuoteShe was going to be a Catholic until she heard about the "confession" part. On what do you base that? Base? I entirely made that up. I was trying (and failed apparently) to make a joke. She also really did not say the confessional quote that I attributed to her. Explaining a joke is like dissecting frogs. You understand a lot about the frog, but the frogs die. If you can't make fun of politicians, who can you? QuoteIt is my understanding that she has been a life long United Methodist. If you (or anyone else reading) is genuinely interested... Nope. No interest. My dad was a lifelong member of the UM church also. Founding member of one. Deacon for a good 40 years. His reputation was based on repeated instances of integrity. HC can sit in church every day and no one will attribute integrity to her. If she sits in the garage all day, it doesn't make her a lawn mower either.
Rookie120 0 #35 April 1, 2008 Quote Sadly, that's no longer true. A good friend of mine ended up with a bullet in his head recently, If your talking about the same person I am thinking of, I forgot about him. So I stand corrected. Quote and another guy I knew from DZ.com was murdered and dumped next to a dirt road. That one slipped my mid also. So once again I stand corrected. The info I posted was supposed to have some humor in it but I guess it was DOA. Do I believe that the bitch had something to do with all the deaths like the conspiracy theorists are saying? Of course not. In my mind it was funny. If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck!

Shotgun 1 #37 April 1, 2008 I was a member of the UM church for a while. Joined when I was a teenager so that I could go on their summer choir trip to California (and a few other trips). I was an atheist, so I didn't care much for the message the church had to offer, but I got to go on some fun trips that I probably wouldn't have otherwise. Not sure if that is relevant to this thread, but maybe it is... Oh, and I'm looking forward to seeing this bowl-off that Clinton and Obama will be having to settle this whole thing.
