Gawain 0 #1 April 1, 2008 http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/uschinataiwanmilitaryespionagejustice The article notes that this clown is facing only 10 years for passing national defense information. Am I the only one that thinks that's a bit on the light side? Selling your country out for a few bucks... On the same note, how could this guy's financial condition go unnoticed? Especially since he apparently worked in areas that concern far-east analysis (like Taiwan and China). So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! JohnnyD 0 #3 April 1, 2008 I didn't even think that was illegal anymore, unless you perjured yourself or obstructed the federal investigation of course.

DZJ 0 #5 April 1, 2008 Is he even likely to serve the full 10 years? Seems like a rather light sentence to me as well.

Depends on the info. If it's the number of Hummers sold to Taiwan in 2006, it's probably too draconian. If it's the STALO frequencies of the ECCM system in the B-2, then it's probably too lenient. TheAnvil 0 #12 April 1, 2008 I assume you mean Scooter Libby. What the hell does his case have to do with this shitbag handing out classified info? Libby was convicted of obstruction of justice and some other charge - perjury perhaps; I forget. Didn't GWB commute his sentence? The two aren't related in any manner I can see. Or are you talking about some other Scooter?Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!!
JohnnyD 0 #13 April 1, 2008 Yes I meant Libby. I just find it interesting that people say we should hang these people from the nearest tree if they're members of one political party and make endless excuses for them if they're members of the other party. I think the end result is a devaluation of the crime itself.

Have to disagree there. Any amount of information tips a hand at capability. Something as simple as the number of HMMWVs can provide insight to mobility of troops. Their configuration further provides the types of men and materiel that can be moved. This is especially important in the sense of Taiwan, as we have a strategic relationship with them, and China would have no compunction to exploit every avenue possible to regain control. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! vortexring 0 #16 April 1, 2008 I agree with that; it goes hand in hand with the fact an individual is selling himself and his country out. 10 years is certainly not draconian. 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.'
