I watched it, and it boiled down to a very professionally done repackaging of stuff most of us have seen before, with cross-references to verses in the Koran.

I watched it yesterday. It was political propaganda, combining sensationalist footage of violence and Koranic verses out of context in order to convince viewers that Islam is a religion of violence. It is no different from someone taking footage of KKK or Eric Rudolph violence, adding some out of context Bible verses, and claiming that Christianity is a religion of violence. Either might appear credible to those ignorant of the topic, but neither would be an accurate representation of the religion.

Let there be no compulsion in religion. (Koran, 2:257)

As bad as other religions may be, at least they don't threaten with violence those that point out their proclivity towards violence. Then again, maybe they're just not that stupid.

Islam doesn't threaten violence either. Radical groups do...even governments (in the case of Saudi Arabia for instance). Same with Christianity. Christianity doesn't threaten violence against blacks and Jews (for doing absolutely nothing other than being black or Jewish), but the KKK does. Christianity doesn't threaten to kill physicians who perform abortions, but the Lambs of Christ and the Army of God do. These extremist groups have a purpose that they try to legitimize by applying religious doctrine to their causes. Islam is no more responsible for extremist groups that hide behind its teachings than Christianity is for the KKK.

Are you satisfied then that moderate Islamic religious leaders have condemned the radicals loud and clear?

No. But I'm probably just as satisfied as the general population of Iraq is that our moderate religious leaders have condemned our radicals loud and clear. Do moderate Christian leaders get on the bull-horn emphatically denouncing "Christian" radicals? Were members of the KKK terribly ostracized by the Christian church? I don't think so. However, I think most of us know that that group's ideals weren't shared by the Church in general. The Church has typically spoken out loudest against these groups within their individual communities.

I can see how moderate Islamics can disagree with the tactics of extremist groups without being activists about it. In fact, I'd imagine that the more moderate types do exactly that, just like here. Doesn't mean the sentiment is not there and shared within their religious communities.

The church, especially in the South, didn't speak out about enough against the KKK in the days before civil rights when they were most active. And I would argue that did lend a degree of complicity in their silence. Now that they are much diminished, it is less of a factor.

The fact is that a lot of the terrorism and violence against civilians is done specifically in the name of Islam. Clearly there is a political battle going on between the moderates and the radicals for the minds of the people on the street. Take a look at the Hamas children's TV show thread for one example of this. If the moderates don't speak up, loud and clear, the radicals will win over those minds.

WTF? Whats all that about death threats? What was the film anyway is there a link to it elsewhere?

The first time the video was pulled from the site linked to in the OP, death threats were cited as the reason. This time it appears to be the use of the copyrighted images from the controversial Muhammad cartoons. As of about two minutes ago, the video is still available on Video.Google:

True.

The original artist is considering legal actions against Wilders. Wilders hopes that by changing ot a different (but equally insulting) cartoon at least this suit can be prevented.

He also edited out the picture of the rapper whom he confused with Theo van Gogh's murderer. The hearing which is a result of that "trivial" mistake is today.

EDIT: Speaking of lawsuits, Wilders is sueing yet another rapper who made a song in which he alledgedly says that Wilders must die or somesuch (haven't heard it, though).
The rapper is protesting that his song is about freedom of speech :D

Thanks, I watched it. Just another hate video. Should be interesting when the Iranians make their version with quotes from the Bible. The bottom line is we could make a Jewish one to. This video is simply a incitment to religious hatred.
