happythoughts 0 #26 March 15, 2008 Quote Quote Vice-President. Goes to luncheons, has own jet, no one has ever assassinated the VP. Better than Pres. VP can't make 10s of millions a year on the speaker circuit. After my time in office, I'm going to go on the Eco-Challenge with 3 of Hugh Hefners girlfriends as the other members of my team. We will come in abysmally last, perhaps by weeks. Showing up shockingly hung over and worn out, perhaps at a beach no where near the correct ending point. I will have Hef market the video of our journey and tour the late night talk show circuit. I'll bet more people watch it twice than Al Gores dvd. Who would you rather be? Rich, made $10m last year speaking, and married to Hillary? Or poor and tired, but envied. I'm not gonna die rich anyway.
councilman24 37 #27 March 15, 2008 Well I have run for and been elected to something. Ran for City Council in Portage MI. in 1995 and lost. Ran in 1997 and won. We have staggered four year terms so I've been reelected in 2001 and 2005. (You can see my Council pic on portagemi.gov.) POTUS, I'd never run. Mainly because I have little use for partisian politics. The City Council is non partisan even though there are at least 5 Rep. on the 7 member council. I consider myself an independant. Someone once suggested I run for County Commission but it is partisan I told them I'd have to run on the Bull Moose party or something because I'd never put an R or a D behind my name. And an independant would have a tough time getting elected even at that level. I don't have much issue with like minded people banding together to promote what they feel is best for the community, whether local, state, or national. And reasonable people can disagree on issues that come before legislative bodies. But unfortunately much/most/all of partisian politics is about getting elected, not do what you believe is best. I've watched local politicians count heads in the audience to decide how to vote. I've watched others tell any group of citizens whatever they wanted to hear, then do nothing to promote those positions after elected. I've watched others flip their vote to positions I know they don't believe but do so for political expediency. Or to gain support in the NEXT election at the next level they plan on entering. At one time the most dangerous place to be was between a fellow councilperson and a media camera. They'd may a beline to be in front and center, even upstaging the Mayor. One occasion I and another councilmember ran a running block on him. It was great until he simply walked around in front of everybody on camera to a better position. I consider myself an elected civil servant. I figured I'd never get reelected because I'd piss everbody off at least once. I've been on the 1 side of 6 to 1 votes several times. I don't jump on the vote bandwagon just because I'm going to lose. One time I was on the losing side of an issue for a developer. I actually was on the developer's side because the ordinance being applied was silly but others were bowing to vocal minority pressure. One of the council members on the winning side flipped their opinon for reasons only they know. But, in order to reconsider the action under Robert's Rules of Order we had to vote to reconsider the question. Only someone on the winning side can make such a motion. But I voted against the motion to reconsider. There was NO NEW information. We had made a decision and there was no valid reasons to reconsider. I'm a very graceful loser most of the time. But I expect others to have reasoned opinions. I love a good debate but don't suffer fools easily. I'd like to BE POTUS. AT LEAST I'D KNOW HOW TO READ A TELEPROMPTER! But could never run for it because I wouldn't compromise as needed to be sussecessful. I expect I will never run for a patisian office. Perhaps as an independant but doubt I'd try. The political herd mentality is too entrenched in many people. This pres. election is a tough one. I'm generally more liberal but McCain came to MI and told autoworkers there jobs were never coming back to MI. Gave them the straight truth and this is the kind of thing I respect. So, Run - No. Serve? Yes. But will only happen in my dreams. Anyway, what was a special experience was walking into a voting booth and seeing my name on a ballot. There for the selection or rejection of all who choose to vote. This is a kind of special feeling. It doesn't take much. Here it's 50 signatures on a nominating petition. Many elections in MI it's a petition or a fee. And we've had some kooks run. But it is special to be part of that democratic process. And no I didn't spell check it. I'm old for my age. happythoughts 0 #28 March 15, 2008 If I want to be removed from office because of a sex scandal, are there rules? Do I have to declare myself to have high moral standards, in advance? Has anyone done this lately? Is there any specific moral rules to go by? Do I have to leak it to the media myself? I'd like it to be a hot chick like the expensive hookers. No chubby interns. ...Asian twins... check!

Zenister 0 #30 March 16, 2008 no for many reasons 1. I'm far from 'squeaky clean' 2. I'm not electable as I pretty much say exactly what I mean and damn the consequences. Politicians need to prefer the 'pretty lie' over the 'ugly truth' and I've never been that person (much to the detriment of a few relationships) 3. I dont believe in compromise for political reasons as opposed to taking the 'best path' no matter what the short term costs (in lives or money) I'd take the role of Emperor, but never that of President. A real leader should have the ability to say STFU when necessary and not have to suffer fools. We have largely lacked real leaders in my life time.____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
