rehmwa 2 #9 March 7, 2008 Most skydivers should wear them at all times. Even while home sleeping and at the grocery store. For their own good and for the 'norms' ... CanuckInUSA 0 #12 March 7, 2008 I can't vote in your poll. I want to vote "No" but I can't vote "no - I don't want to wear a stinking helmet" because I pretty much always wear a helmet when I jump. tbrown 26 #13 March 7, 2008 I think it's just plain stupid to jump without a hard helmet, I've even been saved by a helmet that shattered right off my head. But I'm not going to make anyone wear one. Besides, if we do that, next thing you know some power hungry state official will start telling me in five different languages that I have to wear a full face helmet because I do RW (I prefer open face, it's whhat I started with waaay back in the old days). And finally, with the possible exception of the Protec, there's not a single skydiving helmet out there that's been tested or approved by any of the various and burdensome safety institutes. Nobody's going to tell me that I can't jump my Bonehead because it's not certified - I already know it isn't anyway. Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity ! countzero 7 #16 March 7, 2008 NO! jumper have already made the choice to assume the risk of jumping. it shouldn't be any different for choosing to wear a helmet or not.diamonds are a dawgs best friend
billvon 3,120 #17 March 7, 2008 By law? No. By rule? Yes. Students should be made to wear helmets.
CanuckInUSA 0 #18 March 7, 2008 QuoteBy law? No. By rule? Yes. Some rules do require some skydivers to wear a helmet. Case in point: competitive swoopers must wear helmets (and shoes). Now if students should wear a helmet (I think they should), shouldn't AFF instructors also wear one? As a former ski patroller I can tell you guys I have seen first hand the result of a head injury. It doesn't that much of a blow to the head to cause permanent damage. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
Andrewwhyte 1 #19 March 7, 2008 Quote Now if students should wear a helmet (I think they should), shouldn't AFF instructors also wear one? In Canada they do- From the BSRs: 2.4 Parachutists shall not jump unless wearing shock absorbing protective headwear throughout the freefall and parachute descent. At the discretion of DZ Operators, ‘D’ CoP holders may choose not to wear protective headwear, except while in the role of Coach or Instructor (3.9). Lastchance 0 #20 March 7, 2008 We in the motorcycle community have been fighting these laws for years. If motorcyclists, skydivers or persons in any other sport are required to wear a brainbucket by law, then so should every skier, horserider, skateboarder, jaywalker and and every other person in the fucking world should also be reqired to wear one also including every person in every car. The powers that be are always spouting about death from head injuries. People die from head injuries everyday even when they are not involved in a high risk sport. That all having been said, I wear a helmet on every skydive and once in a blue moon on my motorcycle. It should be a choice not a law. I may be getting old but I got to see all the cool bands. dannydan 5 #21 March 8, 2008 Quote By law? No. By rule? Yes. Students should be made to wear helmets. agree! I voted "depends on the jump" Esp in a group dive. I use to not wear one doing solo jumps until I had a downwinder and flipped over a few times.... I pretty much wear one on any jump now. I do like the "freedom" of not wearing one ie "wind/air through my hair and about my face, however since I have let my hair length kinda get out of hand, the helmet keeps my hair from infringing on my vision. LAW? NO!!! Students yes including AFF, GROUP JUMP=leave it uP to the group! SOLO= uP to the jumper COMPETITION= rules are rules!! peace and happy hard heads!:dd
