rushmc 23 #1 February 29, 2008 Biggest mistake I have made in my life was not to serve. Why? So I can work with people like this http://www.abcnews.go.com/GMA/WaterCooler/story?id=4358724"America will never be destroyed from the outside, if we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves." LouDiamond 1 #2 February 29, 2008 Good on him for standing behind his word. However, I am not positive he will be allowed to go overseas. I know that had he been in the Active Duty Army he would now begin separation from the Army based on policy. Had a guy in my old unit receive and inheritance of several million from his grandmother when she died and was subsequently released from the Military. I forget which chapter it is but it is an honorable discharge. The National Guard I am assuming may or may not have a similar policy."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
kschilk 0 #3 February 29, 2008 In the late 80s, a sailor from my base won the lottery...2.4 million, if I recall correctly. Anyway, he wanted to stay in and although he "fought it", he was discharged within 2 weeks. In his case, it would have likely been an "administrative, under honorable conditions" discharge...often termed a "convenience of the Navy" discharge. I can't recall ever seeing the reg but according to military urban legend, "an enlisted man cannot be wealthier, than his Commanding Officer". I doubt it's worded that way, actually but there is something to the legend. Apparently, the reasoning is to avoid the possible discipline and morale problems."T'was ever thus." GQ_jumper 4 #4 February 29, 2008 I think it's called a change of lifestyle discharge, I've always heard the stories but never witnessed it happening. Either way, much respect to that guy for stepping up to his comittment, all the turds trying to duck out of combat could stand to learn a lesson from him.History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. GQ_jumper 4 #6 February 29, 2008 Kid volunteered for his third tour, you donn't know how many I have seen trying to get out of their second, or even first. why can't we have more guys like him?History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. Amazon 7 #7 February 29, 2008 It take a family to raise them right, to teach them the value of service to country, and to have honer and integrity. Instead we have nearly the opposite amoung so many of the leading families in this country...and that trickles down to so many others.
