I suspect "finding his center" has as much to do with his diet as finding your manhood does with your eating meat. Vegetarians live longer and impact the planet less, no matter what nonsense philosophy they (or meat eaters) espouse. If you don't care about those things, then eat whatever you choose - and deal with the consequences.
Lucky... 0 #127 February 14, 2008 Quote>At the risk of sounding defeatist, I don't foresee a vegetarian society on the horizon. I don't either. However, we will get significantly more vegetarian as 1) people start realizing how much longer they will live if they cut down on the burgers, bacon and barbeque 2) we start running short of energy/space/water to grow all that meat. Right now you can eat meat and not have ten other people starve to death. That will not always be true. >>>>>>>>>>>>2) we start running short of energy/space/water to grow all that meat. A guy at work has a colostomy bag from eating meat, So, essentially, he has his asshole somewhere up front. That also makes us vegetarians squirm. I wonder how his lovelife is? Lucky... 0 #131 February 14, 2008 Quote QuoteCoyotes have to eat meat to live, you do not, you eat it by choice. For some reason, tearing a chicken apart appeals to me more than grazing does. That wasn't the issue. The issue was what was neccesary and humans eating meat is not, it is choice. As for grazing, you don't need to graze, you could buy vegs already prepared. Meat is a choice, you decide that taste is worth an animals life; go deal with your conscience on your own. Yep, and I'll sleep soundly. Probably have bacon as part of my breakfast, probably with eggs and pork & beans. Yum! Awesome!!! Prostate cancer is closer every steak.

Amazon 7 #145 February 14, 2008 Most of the beef I do eat comes from a local facility and I know how its treated. My salmon....I catch fresh and process and freeze myself. Some is cooked immediately... and some... goes into the smokeer... there is nothing quite like a nice freshly alder smoked slab of chinook salmon... NUMMERS I have not gone hunting in a couple years since my hunting partner managed to drown himselfBut I do have friends who share as much elk and venison( since I point out on the maps where to go at what times etc) Hell I taught them how to be successfull hunters.. and I taught them how to properly take care of the meat. I also taught them the ethics of a past age.. of respecting the animals

Think of it this way, if you had some crazed madman after you and your family, you had no gun, he did. All you want is to live and be left alone. Hell, life is hard enough with work and daily struggles and to have someone trying to wipe you out....well, I guess that's some people's definition of.....humanity. I recall once when I was an 18yo asshole that I thought it was cool to kill animals. I didn't think this up on my own, but the guys I hung out with in the military did so and I thought I would hang with them. I bought a ruger 10-22 and we went out. I saw a bunch of squirrels so I shot at 1 on a log. I hit it and it fell over. It's mate/friend ran up to me an dstarted chirping real loudly, it was probably 10 feet away. I emptied my clip and missed it, then it ran off. Do you want to tell me that that squirrel had no love, affection, etc for whatever relation it was to squirrel I killed? To run up to something 200 times larger and basically yell at me for doing that meant that I drew some real emotion, but of course dumb animals don't have emotions, right? I feel like shit for doing what I did and don't forgive myself, but I was young and stupid, in the ID stage rather than the EGO or SUPEREGO. As we grow older we are supposed to grow more compassionate to all organisms....some don;t figure it out. I can't say what I feel about adults 30's+ who kill these animals and yet stay on this forum, but I will say that I cheer when these people get colon cancer, hardened arteries, mad cow, etc.

I have no compassion for people who kill animals if they are of the age and competency to understand what they are doing and the pain they are causing. No, I, like most people who kill animals, killed it for sport. These hunters kill for sport, they hide behind the facade of killing for food, but it costs more to travel to a location, kill, clean, haul back than it would to buy in a store, not that that's much less cruel. As for Jesus, I believe in that myth as much as you do. Don't bring fantasy into a serious thing like killing small, defenseless little creatures of nature. I love nature, love animals, not just pets....

Most of the people I know who hunt and fish do it for the food . I certainly do.. and I would not nor have I ever.... wasted an animal I have killed. I think that is morally repugnant for those who do. I respect the animal that is becoming a part of me.. sustaining me. QuoteDon't bring fantasy into a serious thing like killing small, defenseless little creatures of nature. I love nature, love animals, not just pets.... Ever seen Bambi after he has starved to death because not enough hunters were successfull and not enough natural predators are left to maintain the balance in a hard winter??? Its not a pretty site. That speak volumes about his outlook on life, others own personal beliefs, and his own mental state. Emptied a clip? What did he do strip them off by hand? Maybe the squirrel was taunting him for being a lousy shot.10 feet away and you missed, and you say you were in the military? hehehe that is a good one
