SpeedRacer 1 #1 February 12, 2008 http://www.lewrockwell.com/shaffer/shaffer104.html This guy is saying some of the things I've been thinking for a while. He proposes a vertical spectrum: Anarchism Libertarianism (classical "liberalism") Conservatism Modern liberalism Welfare-statism Limited state-socialism Feudalism Expansive state-socialism Fascism/communism Of course, restricting the model to ANY one-dimensional spectrum is still going to oversimplify things. But I still think he's got some good points here. Speed Racer --------------------------------------------------

Certainly you mean 2 dimensions. As for him, I think he's full of shit. If you have 2 dimensions, it doesn't matter in the least if you call them horizontal or vertical. SpeedRacer 1 #3 February 12, 2008 well, a single line would be one dimensional. The Nolan Chart is an example of a two-dimensional version. Speed Racer --------------------------------------------------

What kinda crack has this guy been smoking? You need to read it more carefully. of course it doesn't matter if you call them horizontal or vertical. His point is that the whole "democrat" vs "republican" or "liberal" vs. "conservative" have, at least in modern times, lost or changed meaning to the point of losing significance, and maybe the yardstick should be measured by degrees of personal freedom.
