Sex offender in the neighborhood

Recommended Posts

Yep... got one of those dreaded notices in the mailbox. A 20 year old sex offender now lives less than 2000 feet from my home. >:( Apparently he was convicted of having sex with a 11 year old girl, but the notice seems to say he served no jail time??? What the fucking hell? :S

My neighbors across the street, who have a 15 year old daughter, are pissed too. They came over yesterday with a petition, and of course, I was the first to sign it (for the perp to move). We all have seen him walking up and down the street by our houses several times.

Before you lynch him, find out everything you can about the case. Yes, I know there is no excuse.

I plan to. The notice mentions something about consensual sex but the wording is confusing. Something is clearly not right. I'll scan it and post in a few minutes.

I agree with Walt. Find out as much as you can, and I think you should go meet him. He may openly explain to you why he had to send those notes out (hell,it's no secret) and he may open up. There is no excuse - but find out what kind of man he has become...

Does it say how long ago this happened? If he was 13, she was 11, and the act was as "consensual" as such a thing could be, that's a lot different than him being 20, her being 11, and him forcing himself on her.

The sheriff's department sent out the notices as required by law. I'm sure the perp is now going to be laying low, if he's smart.

Here's the notice I got.

I am totally against all legitimate sex offenders, however I have seen several instances where the girl looked a lot older than 11 (yes some girls do develop that early) and act a lot older and lie to the boy. If he legitimatly abused the girl, then yes I will be the first to bring a rope for the lynching. But if it is a case of satuatory rape, charged by the parents, cause thier daughter is a little hooch, then please make the efforts to find that out....

You should be able to get the information about the case, although you may have to go through a FFI act. It may not have even been a local case, but if you have his name some googling will go a long ways. Not only that, but you should be able to contact the agency that sent the letter for some more information. Do some research, sometimes people get screwed and have to registered. Sometimes people truly are a threat and you need to react accordingly.

Just use the format of the notice you got to print up a "Skydiver Notification" about yourself, and put in in all the local mailboxes. That should scare him away as well as many others in the neighborhood.:D

In before the move.

Find out all you can about the case before you condem him. The sex offender laws are fucked up sometimes. To bad they don't do the same thing with violent offenders. Hell you can nearly kill someone and the police know where you are and nothing will happen to you.

I agree with Spence. A murderer does not have to send out a notice to the community. Hell maybe ANY convicted felon should have a scarlet letter.

Although I would bet that it would be hard to try and start over in a community when a person has a scarlet letter. But hell they are all guilty and don't deserve a second chance right.

I'm guessing that there is alot of sex offenders who get killed after these notices go out? They would be burnt out in the UK.

yea...nothing like having served your time and paid for the crime that society will now hold against you for the rest of your life.

I'm glad those of us who aren't guilty are simply perfect in our own little worlds...never having made mistakes makes for the lofty view of those that have.

I'm going to find out why this perp was convicted, but released without incarceration. Will report back on what I find out.

If a sex offender served his time in jail, then yeah, let him have a 2nd chance. Somehow I just don't think justice was done right in this case.

Surely the British public wouldn't be quite so reactionary?
A "name and shame" campaign of paedophiles in the News of the World, which published the names and photographs of 49 people it said were child sex offenders living in towns and cities across Britain, stirred up violent outbursts of hatred.

Vigilante groups, mainly composed of parents incensed at the idea of having convicted paedophiles living in their area, mounted angry protests outside the suspected sex offenders' houses. Two men accused of child sex offences committed suicide and four innocent families fled their homes in Portsmouth after gossip and rumour wrongly identified them as harbouring paedophiles. Violence flared in Plymouth and Whitely, Berkshire. Innocent men mistaken for paedophiles were targeted in London and Manchester.

Come on, that's Britain, home of the football (soccer) crazed fans who like to riot. ;)

We're a bit more civilized over here. Of course, it wasn't civilized 40-50 years ago but we've come a long way since.

Well, I called the sheriff's office. I didn't get much out of them. Just that he was convicted under the statuary rape classification since the victim was under 12, whatever that means. I know statutory rape is if the victim is under 16. His sentence was suspended and he is on probation. I'm guessing this was his first offense otherwise he would be in jail right now.

The sentencing guidelines or the leeway the judges use can seem so fucked up. I can't imagine what the parents of that 11 year old feels like now. [:/]

My wife, myself and our neighbors across the street have seen the perp walking up and down the street past our houses a few times. No law against that, but now that we recognized him in the notice picture, it can't feel good. :|

How DARE that guy think he has a right to live in a house!!!

That gives me an idea. We should take all felons, put them in houses together, and make a reality tv show out of it, Real World style. There could even be several different spinoffs, like "The Real World: Armed Robbers," and "The Real World: Pedophiles."

Talk about killing two birds with one stone!
