with more spending/unlimited foreign occupation & open-ended warfare by the neo-cons, and eventually, that would be all we'd be able to afford.

Not as long as China keeps on lending us money.

The CBO estimated the 2008 deficit to be $250Billion, BEFORE the deficit financed "stimulus package" is added in.

a quote from one of the Republican dabates:

Quote

“You’re saying now that we have to continue borrowing more money from China to finance this empire we can’t afford. Let me see if I get this right. We need to borrow $10 billion from China, and then we give it to Musharraf, who is a military dictator who overthrew an elected government, and then we go to war, we lose all these lives, promoting democracy in Iraq. I mean what’s going on here?”

It is amazing with whom and how often our leaders jump in and out of bed. The whores know no limits. The part the public should be appalled with, is that they claim to be doing so on our behalf.

Good thing Bubba Jeff traded MFN status for that campaign contribution, huh?

Grasping at straws again, Mike?

Congress seemed happy too:

House Speaker Newt Gingrich welcomed Clinton's recommendation for renewing MFN status for China, and vowed to work in a bipartisan manner to ensure that China receives it from Congress.

Gingrich, joined by Reps. Bill Archer (R-Texas) and Philip Crane (R-Ill.), made his comments in a letter to Clinton.

Gingrich wrote: "We welcome the determination you made today to recommend the renewal of MFN trade status for China, and we pledge to work with you in a bipartisan manner to preserve our longstanding policy of commercial and diplomatic engagement with the Chinese. Seeking to keep China open to the West has proven to be the most effective way to advance our democratic values in this turbulent region of the world -- a policy we are committed to maintaining."

I wonder why the President renewed it in June 2001? Who was President in June 2001, anyway? Oh, yes, your hero, George W. Bush.
