(At least it wasn't full of lies untruths like the 2003 SOTU).

As I mentioned in another thread, I think he does a great Frank Caliendo impersonation. He simply nails it!
As for content, I especially liked the firm stance that he's outlined against earmarks. He demands that Congress put an end to them, after he's gone.
And lastly, thank the manifestation of your God of choice that he didn't announce that he's starting another war. Let's hope he means what he didn't say.

It was depressing. We are at a point in our history where we need leadership and we are getting none. The two opposing parties cancel each other out and nothing ever gets done. Just the same ole partisan bickering and politicians selling out to special interest groups.

Funny, don't you think, that he didn't veto a single spending bill when the GOP was in control of Congress and spending like drunken sailors.

I think that the Union is still holding O.K, the Scots are abit upity, but that's nothing new. Nobody listens to the Welsh or the East Anglians. The Southerners are still a bunch of poofs and rely on us midlanders to keep the northern hoards out of the M25..

Is that what you were after or was this another yank thread?:P

My favorite part was this mention of our "enemy" in Iraq. Did this "enemy" even exist when we invaded Iraq? And what portion of them weren't "muslim extremists" until we gave them a reason to be?

The first signs of a decaying republic. The very processes instituted to establish a government of representation and protect our liberties have been usurped. They are now the tools of an industry of lobbyists that serve very special and very elite interests.

This is a pattern that has repeated itself throughout history. As government becomes an industry in itself, it becomes all-corrupting, growing further away and identifying less all the time with the populace it was intended to serve.

We haven't even put any new twists on it. Just another empire-building elitist-ruled nation that doesn't know when to stop.

And I'm sure that his departing executive orders will involve insuring that war spending is included in the budget, that the WH must comply with all subpoenas, and the the FOIA office be defunded.
Ooops. Looks like they're not waiting for that last one.

i was wondering...."who wrote this speech"????

there is NO way that G W B composed that...
he barely could recite it...

lots of "we're gonna do this and we're gonna do that".....
change our energy policies,
bolster the economy
re-invigorate scientific research,
continue with the education policy of No child Left behind..... Hell he called THAT a success,,, when just about EVERYone I know, who is a teacher, or is otherwise involved in education,, cites that policy as , " non-viable, underfunded,
steering AWAY from learning, and TOWARDS techniques for better TEST-TAKING..."

when will ANY president give a S of T U address. where he says... This is what we HAVE DONE....
these are the recent ACCOMPLISHMENTS we have already made...
and not just recite another numbing 'wish list'...

all the phoney baloney applause.....i didn't understand THAT either.......
reminds me of a bumper sticker i recently saw...it said...

" Blindly following Bad Leadership, is NOT an indication of Patriotism..."

another year..... may it pass quickly...

According to Michael Gerson, who wrote five of the SOTU addresses, Bush likes to see an outline before Christmas, talks to the writer about why some things are there or why others aren't, it gets worked some more, then it gets reviewed and commented on by every member of the senior WH staff in what is called the "staffing process". It's finished well ahead of time. The speech appears to be a White House staff product. I'm not sure if the winks and smirks during the delivery are written in, I'm guessing probably not.

I cheered when President Bush proposed doubling funding for basic research funding in physical sciences!

I like when he says things like that, but have become very cynical in thinking he often says what he thinks people want to hear. On this topic it is hard to reconcile with his previous comments about evolution. (He still thinks it is questionable).

This is a case of believe what I say and not what I do. The Bush administration's support for the sciences has not kept pace with inflation.

It's also funny that those evil "earmarks" are included with the administration's numbers to make its support for the sciences look better than it really is.
