squarecanopy 0 #52 January 19, 2008 QuoteWow - 247 deaths and injuries. In a country of over 5 million people. Staggering. Especially compared to the 52,447 violent gun injuries and the 28,663 deaths in the US in 2000 (couldn't find later stats). Wow - you've really given me something to think about. How many high school massacres are you predicting for this year in Scotland John? How many in the US? In your rush to point out that we are a violent society you MISSED THE POINT of the thread. Your violent DISARMED society( which should have NO GUN CRIME NOW SINCE THE HONEST POPULACE HAS NO GUNS) has gun crime statistics that are going rapidly in the wrong direction as your ARMED criminals are preying in ever increasing numbers on your UNARMED citizens. Logical conclusion: Gun bans in your country are a failure just like in every other country in the world. Just burning a hole in the sky.....
vortexring 0 #53 January 19, 2008 You're right - it is a bit otp - I've made it in jest, from the seriousness of the other threads on the subject. And as this thread was more; how can I put it, tit for tat? 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.' You said: "I'm not worried about their mentality. I'm worried about the mass ignorance about the lack of effectiveness of gun control laws, and the erosions of personal liberty and safety caused by those who don't understand that fact and want to keep trying gun control anyway." I guess we all know that John, but sometimes the way you portray your issue makes it seem you've other agendas - hence the slagging matches that generally ensue. But I still feel you're not quite able to understand this mentality completely, so here is what I regard a humourful example. It's from when some terrorists attacked Glasgow airport - in Scotland: "John Smeaton just surpassed himself on the National ITV news. The interviewer asked "What message do you have for the bombers?" - he replied "This is Glasgow we'll just set about you" http://digg.com/world_news/Glasgow_Airport_Terrorist_Attack_Hero_What_Really_Happened What really made me laugh was the guy mentioning that he might have torn a ligament in his foot, kicking the terrorist so hard in the bollocks."Only in Glasgow do suicide bombers need rescued from the locals by the police." 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.'

Bull - or should I bring up post after post of yours loaded with scorn and condescension towards us for wanting to keep our weapons?
