jjiimmyyt 0 #14 January 16, 2008 Haven't you had more attacks on US soil in the last few years from people, US or other nationalities, who were perfectly legal to be there? How many attacks from people entering the country illegally? Increased border security is just there to show the public that the government is doing something, even though its not effective. I dont blame them, they have to do something, they are just covering their arse. Its a shame, I've really enjoyed my visits to the US but it doesn't look like I'll be back for a while. billvon 3,080 #15 January 16, 2008 >Why shouldn't the US guard against your lapse? Remember this? Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame, With conquering limbs astride from land to land; Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame. "Keep ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!" Perhaps you should get that re-written post-haste, lest anyone think that this is America, the land of the free and the home of the brave, the last refuge for the dispossessed. Make sure they know that this new America has become the land of the TSA and the home of the fearful, a place where everyone is terrified of foreigners lest they turn out to be evil heartless fascists communists terrorists homicide bombers. asmund 0 #16 January 16, 2008 But border protection and defending the sovereignty of the US mainland, is at least a legitimate task of the military. Blowing up countries in the middle east, even if trying to create peace, it not a legitimate task of the US military. It is interventionism, and it was strongly discouraged by the founders, as well as the constitution. The fake-conservatives (neo) have even failed at securing US oil supply from "falling in the hands of terrorists who will increase the price". During the Iraq invasion the oil price have more than doubled, and that is not because of the terrorists, but rather the fear of more attacks from the US, encouraging more terrorist responses against oil production. It should be realized that many of the terrorist nations react perfectly logical - when being invaded by the US, they fight in the only way they are technologically capable of: IEDs and suicide bombers. If the US don't attack first, or stage "Gulf of Tonkin" incidents to wage war, there is no way that men with sticks and stones would harm Americans 4000 miles away. Just stop taking student visas from terrorist nations. Ron Paul is the only dude who will do that.I like subway.

billvon 3,080 #23 January 16, 2008 In that case, my apologies. It sounded like you were worried about "negative influences of other cultures" getting into the US. If you are worried more about criminals getting in, then I agree with you. I think we should do a better job of both keeping criminals out, and letting people who want to work/go to school in. Way more people die on the roads or from smoking etc... etc... and way less money spent to solve these much larger problems. Lets have some perspective, for a change.
