And this is where the First Amendment breaks down.

Tell me again why people like; Joyce Meyer, Benny Hinn and Paula White can't be locked up?

This is not directed at the folks that believe in their hearts and pray to god but those that would prey upon them; go to hell.

Com'n. Just have faith and up your 10%. Benny was run out of Orlando when I lived there. Sure had a nice church tho.

Unfortunately we live in a world where the gambling mindset and those that prey upon it is growing larger and larger. In my mind the people who give to these 'prosperity preachers' and expect a large reward for doing so are no different than those who go to a casino, sit their butt down, and whittle away their days/nights expecting to walk out with a wad of cash.

Both proprietors are preying on this mind set. Just with a different twist.

But at least with gambling establishments you know, or should know since it should have been programmed into you since birth (or at least since 6th grade math class), that gambling is a losing proposition. The house ALWAYS ultimately wins.

I completely agree with you. And yet, shouldn't there be a little warning bell that goes off in anyone's brain when earthly riches are promised from the pulpit? Even I didn't have to get to 6th grade math to realize this in my youth. :|

Weren't we all taught from our parent's knee "Store up your riches in heaven"?

Sounds kind of like the people who think that if we give just a little more to the govt., somehow, we'll all be blessed beyound measure.

What an absurd comment.

How do you expect to pay for a $trillion+ war without paying for it? What blessings is this war bestowing?

The US is in debt BECAUSE the taxpayers don't pay enough.

Has nothing whatever to do with religious fraud.

AMEN AMEN!!!

In my communist state of Killinois, gambling became legal some 25 years ago or so with the state lottery. About two years ago the state started running commercials on radio and tv about where and how to seek out HELP with the addiction....

Like I have said before, "the WORM is turning"...

Your comment is just as absurd. I pay plenty of taxes. More taxes is not the sloution. The solution is for the governemnt to stop wasteful spending and disallow senators and congressman to stop wasting billions of dollars on "pork" projects that get them reelected.

As for as the religion thing goes it just goes to show that people are idiots and they will open their pocket books if you tell them what they want to hear.
The most terrifying words in the English language are: I'm from the government and I'm here to help.

We could go socialist and pay 70% of our income to the government....

Debt is debt regardless of the political persuasion of the nation.

We ARE a nation of debtors. At some time our creditors will have had enough. We owe more than $1Trillion to "socialist" China.

That's a very interesting and legitimate question. Do you have guesses or sources on the answer? I don’t off the top of my head.

The flip side is how much of our debt is held by foreign entities. Which is larger, foreign debt owed to the USG or owed by it? I honestly don't know.

According OMB (through the Office of the President) in 2006, 44% of the overall amassed US debt was held by “foreign residents” (top of page 235). US federal borrowing from foreign sources also accounted for 86% of the new borrowing in 2006.

The major foreign holders of US debt (i.e., that we owe them) through Oct 2007 are:
(1) Japan - $592B
(2) China - $388B
(3) United Kingdom - $297B
(4) “Oil Exporters” (i.e., “Oil exporters include Ecuador, Venezuela, Indonesia, Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Algeria, Gabon, Libya, and Nigeria”) - $130B
(5) Brazil - $113B
(6) “Caribbean Banking Centers include Bahamas, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Netherlands Antilles and Panama” - $78B

Total owed in public debt to foreign sources: $2.31T ... (!)

All three of the groups Fleenor supported are among six major Christian television ministries under scrutiny by a senator who is asking questions about the evangelists' lavish spending and possible abuses of their tax-exempt status.

The probe by Sen. Charles Grassley of Iowa, the ranking Republican on the Senate Finance Committee, has brought new scrutiny to the underlying belief that brings in millions of dollars and fills churches from Atlanta to Los Angeles -- the "Gospel of Prosperity," or the notion that God wants to bless the faithful with earthly riches.

All six ministries under investigation preach the prosperity gospel to varying degrees.

That's the real travesty right there.

I understand being pissed and disgusted about this but, to say this is where the 1st Amendment breaks down? I am having a hard time understanding that perspective.

it will be because we destroyed ourselves."

I have no sympathy for the people who believe their clergy, and see no real difference between believing "Give me your money and you shall have wealth" and "Abstain from naughty sex acts and you shall live forever". Is it any wonder that such gullible people are constantly disappointed?

so why was the believer bitter?

did she just send in the money, pray, & then sit on her ass expecting a box of money from God to arrive at her door?

Well that's what they told her would happen.

Is this woman a pitiful moron? Yes. Was she preyed upon by ruthless bloodsucking conmen who've become rich beyond the dreams of avarice by taking advantage of the terminally gullible? Also yes.
Do you want to have an ideagasm?
