happythoughts 0 #1 December 24, 2007 I believe that it repeatedly costs the Dems elections. In the past, two candidates are presented. One is middle-of-the-road, mildly conservative. The other seems to be pompous and does not relate to anything going on in the lives of the average American. There is an anti-vote. The "I don't like candidate A, but I detest candidate B" vote. It seems to drive national politics. So, the Washington Times did a poll. Hillary got 40%. The other 6 - Guiliani, Romney, Huckabee, Obama, Edwards, and McCain - combined - got 44%. There is one big hint. Women over 40 - 36% Women under 40 - 39% clicky I think that the strategy has always been that Hillary becomes the new Ted Kennedy. TK is a veteran, successful fundraiser, brings big cash to the party. However, because of his various personal issues, he is virtually un-electable. Now comes Hillary. She has the unwavering support of the reprehensibly silent womens groups (their motto "Sell your soul for big bucks today"). Hillary will draw big $. If she loses, the Dem political machine is still be richer. In the mean time, her hubby is getting $250K a speaking engagement (that is presented as not being a campaign bribe). Ironic, isn't it? He doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of being elected as POTUS, because every time anyone so much as hints at it, the dreaded Chap.... word pops up. But yet he gets re-elected again, and again as senator of his own state. It just goes to show how entrenched our politicians are in their positions, that all the incumbent needs is a pulse to get re-elected."There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones. If you go against the group, it is politically and financially difficult in Mass. The family seems to sneer at all the issues that would make them unelectable. Drinking, drugs, divorce (Catholic), sexual misconduct. I have talked to people from Mass and they seem to like them. I don't get it. On a local scale, they are gold. On a national scale, he would be impossible. However, on a national level, he gains public attention. He can be used as an attack vehicle because he can say anything about the opposition and not be damaged in return.
