When I was 16, I stacked 30lb boxes of tomatoes on pallets in a tomato packing plant.

There were a lot of guys on that line who were hobos that followed the picking season. Many didn't make the best decisions with their money. Some gambled, some drank.

However, they lived in a nearby hobo jungle, ate well, and had little responsibility. They were living their lives on their terms.

The ones who followed the picking route, lived in company housing on the farm until the picking was done. Most worked six days a week and stayed on the farm on Sunday and relaxed. They made excellent money.

If there are jobs that can be filled by non-illegal non-immigrant workers and there are non-immigrants without jobs...
It seems like the former system worked well.

Yup, a latino is a very hard worker. At my highschool and summer job delivering catering equipment and putting up tents we wouldn't hire white people or small to middle sized black dudes for permanent positions. They would usually turn out to be lazy and irreverent. It was either latinos, black dudes big enough for the heavy lifting, or white/black/chinese/whatever college kids back home on break.

Right now we still have (sort of) the cream of the crop, though we're starting to see some laziness set in. 10 years ago the folks who came here were hard workers. They were the ones who had the initiative to make things better for themselves and did it. Now we have their children and random folks who are sliding through on paths that the hard workers laid. Soon they'll all be smoking crack like the rest of us. They'll just be more people who are barely eeking by....

I would say that most illegal immigrants are still hard worker. You don't leave your country, your family and your friends if you don't think it's worth it. I talk out of expirience. And it wouldn't be worth it if you were not working for it.

Yep....but soon, they'll still be smoking crack like the rest of us....lol. It won't seem like the good life when they realize that most American families don't live 5 families to one house....

I think, the days of the 'Hobo', are long gone. Since they started locking the rail cars to keep illegals out.

Unfortunately, a LOT of unemployed or (sometimes in their own opinion) underemployed feel they are entitled to a better job/pay/benefits than what they're worth. Either continually improve yourself, or don't complain when somebody else comes chomping for your job.

As for migrant workers in general, go nuts! Each person should be entitled to the greatest or least amount of responsibility they wish in their life. More power to them.

Amazing someone could make this sort of stereotypical statement with a straight face.
Come west, you'll find that there are lazy Latinos just like there are lazy Asians, Africans, or whatever.
In Singapore, listened to a friend go on last night about how "lazy the Malay's are." Yet being in Malaysia last week, I see how industrious the Malay's are.
From your statement, I've not ever seen many smart nor creative white persons, either. Americans are all fat and lazy. Probably because they have the Mexicans. That's it! Blame the Latinos for American obesity.
In the west, we routinely see migrant groups, but I think the 'way of the hobo' went away with changes in the train system.
