Neighbor Guns Down Robbers with Shotgun while on with 911

I was inferring the comments are for the police during the investigation afterwards.

Simply stating "I shot the bastard thief" will change their perception of your intent.

No matter what our rights are to defend ourselves, it will help to relate your actions in a justifiable manner.

WTF :S

So it's ok to kill people for burglary now is it?

If you come into my house you will face the business end of an AK. So I say yes, in most cases it is OK. Many burglaries turn into rapes and murders and you never know when that can happen.

I got the impression they were running away well before he fired shots. He didn't shoot them because he was threatened - he shot them to keep them from getting away.

Whatever. I am in favor of the use of force to protect property. Go try to rob a bank - you will be shot by the cops over property, so why can't I protect my property?

We need to stop coddling the true criminals.

House burglary is dangerous in Texas.

As it should be.

Just out of curiosity, what are the burglary rates in Texas compared to a similar state (size, demographics, economy..etc) where shhoting burglars is a little less fashionable?

But, but, but ... It isn't their fault. It is our fault. They had the potential to be anything and we let them down. :P

Exactly....it's the systems fault, its societies fault. The village failed to raise the child. They should be given victimization credits towards thier next conviction (twice as many if they are minorities).

I don't have an answer for ya. My home has been burglarized before and the bastards were so good that 24 passed before I realized I was a victim.

The scary thing is I have daughters that could have come home at a bad time and been a victim.

OK, Texas burglary RATE (per 100,000 population) is about 50% more than Illinois, which has strict gun control and a large urban population.

Yeah, but they're telling people to make sure their front doors are locked, with the recent changes in the "Castle Doctrine" laws... something about "hunting a baited field".... :)

Not fun. I do think the guy went a bit over the top however. I believe that once you have breached the perimiter of a persons home the gloves should come off, but going outside the way he did and making those statements reeks of bloodlust and vigilanteism. Could lead to an innocent person getting hurt. Not that I have any real sympathy for the burglars, thier mothers should have had abortions and he rectified that oversite. I would just hate to see some kid playing hide and seek get shot.

The guy didn't even know the neighbor. He says so on the 911 tape. He also said that he was going outside to kill these guys. His intention for going outside was to kill and nothing more. He was not protecting anything. He could had easily killed a neighborhood kid who may had been cutting through a yard. He also uses the Sept 11th attack as justification for killing these guys. How fucking pathetic is that.

Newsflash: A different set of laws apply to cops versus private citizens.

Now, I could be wrong about this, as I heard it on the radio, but according to them, when he shot the two guys, they were charging at him with crow bars in his yard.

If I remember correctly, he did say, "stop or I'll shoot," and thats when they came at him, then you hear, "boom, you're dead."

If this is true, does it justify him shooting them?

No, he should have stayed in his own house, not act like he's rambo

That would be a black and white case of self-defense, but it wasn't what I read in the article.
