lawrocket 3 #1 November 16, 2007 Now, why the hell would a person lie when offered complete immunity? Giambi told the truth, word got out, he's playing baseball and he's generally found to be an all right guy. Bonds apparently lied under oath. What sort of person lies under oath when offered immunity? The arrogant. The me-centered. The ones who fear that word will get out. Those who take a calculated risk that they won't go down. Mr. Bonds, apparently your calcualtions were a bit off. Own up to it. Mr. Bonds, in a decade you MAY be in the Hall of Fame. But you won't be playing baseball next year. The league will not allow whatever team wants to to sign you to sign you. Barry - own up. p.s. - In the court of law, give the guy every presumption in his benefit. But this here is the court of public opinion, not the court of law. I think he knowingly roided up. My wife is hotter than your wife.
freethefly 6 #2 November 16, 2007 he should had done as Mark Mcguire did, just don't answer the questions. Can't lie if you don't open your mouth."...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." FreeflyChile 0 #3 November 16, 2007 Two things about Giambi and Bonds that are different: 1) the race thing.... 2) Giambi has always been better with the media than Bonds. I think that everyone in the media has been salivating at the chance to get at him because he's always been such an ass with them. That said, I agree with you and I think that he knowingly took steroids.
kelpdiver 2 #4 November 16, 2007 Quote Bonds apparently lied under oath. What sort of person lies under oath when offered immunity? One who correctly saw the grand jury for what it was. Everything that happened in that supposedly private investigation was leaked, and while the athlete is under a gag order and unable to address any claims, anyone within had free course to release information. You also need only look at the circumstances of the day of Bond's deposition compared to that of the others and it was clear that they were out to get him, either by getting him to admit steroid use, or to get him for denying it. Since it wasn't a trial, the 5th amendment bit doesn't seem to apply, so the accused were damned either way. No better than the anti American hearings in the 50s. Most of the income for athletes come from endorsements, not from their direct salary and these hearings endangered all of that. I think Bonds has been an asshole since he showed up in SF, but I think he's getting a raw deal here.
