I'd guess this guy had some kind of psychotic condition. . Man! You guys are good! Preexisting conditions, cause of death ...and all from a shaky video from 30 feet away!!!! I'm guessing tricuspid valve vegetation and bacterial endocarditis. Guess you missed this bit '(obviously without any knowledge of his medical history)' That statement was fine, if it was followed by " ...I could not possibly offer an intelligent opinion as to his cause of death." ----------------------- "O brave new world that has such people in it". SkyDekker 1,465 #53 November 16, 2007 QuoteI thought canadians are peace loving hippies and they don't have any violence up there. Just ask Skydekker. Compared to the US our violence is almost negligable... 360 times somebody got tasered in Toronto so far this year. No deaths, as a matter of fact, not even a complaint filed. The guy showed violent tendencies, he is in a high risk environment (international airport), showing irrational tendencies. I think the officers acted according to their standing orders and their training. The discussion about the pros and cons of tasers is a seperate discussion from this. I do think that the availability of tasers means that they now get used in scenarios where otherwise hands, batons or asps would have been used. swilson 0 #54 November 18, 2007 Hmmm... substitute "Polish" for "American". There'd be an uproar. Having seen the video, he went pretty much passive when the RCMP walked into the room with him. You mean to tell me that FOUR officers could not have physically restrained him, put handcuffs on him, and led him wherever they wanted him to go, without any risk to themselves OR to him? I call bullshit.

Andrewwhyte 1 #56 November 19, 2007 QuoteHmmm... substitute "Polish" for "American". There'd be an uproar. There is an uproar. The Polish government is pissed; they are calling for criminal charges. More importantly, so is the Canadian populace.
78RATS 0 #57 November 19, 2007 Quote Wrong, it's not a subtitute for deadly force You would actually be 100% incorrect. Tasers are deadly weapons. Period. Exclamation point. If you have been taught that tasers are just "part of the use of force continuum", you have been taught incorrectly. Glad you don't carry one. skycop 0 #58 November 20, 2007 QuoteYou would actually be 100% incorrect. Tasers are deadly weapons. Period. Exclamation point. Sorry sport, that may be your opinion but it's far from fact. The taser IS NOT deadly force. People who have died when one is used, have died from complications from a variety of things, usually chemical or (lack of) fitness related. The vast majority (if not all) officers who carry tasers have been tasered themselves, with no fatalities. QuoteIf you have been taught that tasers are just "part of the use of force continuum", you have been taught incorrectly. A completely inaccurate statement, educate yourself on the use of force continuum, it starts with verbal and ends with deadly force. There is a whole lot inbetween, you may not like it but it's factual. Once again an edited version of the use of force continuum Verbal- To persuade Empty Handed-Seeks compliance with the use of restraint techniques, holds, armbars etc. Less lethal- met to impede the aggressors actions. With use of less lethal tools or weapons, batons, bean bag rounds,OC/mace/taser. Deadly Force- To stop the aggressors actions to protect life The taser falls in the Less than Lethal level. Remember an officer can use one step ahead of the aggressor to prevent injury. Injury can occur to the aggressor or officer at levels above verbal. These levels are universally accepted by the International Association of Chiefs of Police IACP. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!" Amazon 7 #59 November 20, 2007 Quote No I am sorry, my respect for the RCMP is at an all time low right now. I grew up on stories of the Mounties... Sgt Preston...etc.... I have even been to the gravesite in Fort McPherson.... of the Lost Patrol. Mine went downhill when I had an RCMP pick my car out of a line of cars doing 60 MPH in a 55 zone north of Nelson BC ( mine was the one with the Oregon plates.. all the others were BC or Alberta plates) and then putting down 80 MPH on the ticket.....This guy was worthy of the Georgia State Patrol ticketing Yankees on the way to FloridaSince then my trips to the far north have been very rare....where I used to go to the Yukon or NWT every year about the time of summer solstice....all because of this one buttwipe on some kind of power trip and a level of dishonesty that was totally uncalled for. I sent the check with a LONG letter to the Provincial court... I am sure he couted on my not being able to show up in their regional court 2000 miles north of where I was living... I bet they got a real chuckle out of the letter.. but I have not spent hardly ANY money up there in years...

skycop 0 #62 November 20, 2007 My mind is open, yours is not. I tried to explain how the use of force works, again you and others may not like it but thats how it works. My mind is open enough to watch the video and draw what conclusions I can, based on training and experience. If I saw something improper, I'd say so. ypelchat 0 #63 November 21, 2007 Watching the video, is quite disturbing... I don't know why that guy got tased... I think he was not a threat to the police officers, or to anyone. He was disruptive, but I think he never threatened anyone. What a sad outcome.Yves.
